good tire shine

Seems like a lot of people here like me, use the Eagle One Tire Swipes. Is everyone else have the same problem with the sponges separating after a while? I buy new ones pretty frequently and I always have a problem with the yellow part separating from the gray part after a while.

that's why i switched over to these, and they are one piece. also, i like the way they work in the dressing better...

agreed, and also working the gel/dressing into the tire really good is the key. i like using these tire dressing applicators as well...

where did you get those? I have heard people just cutting a grout sponge for there tire size profile so it fits perfectly. Doesnt that seem good? Right now i just use the eagle one tire dressers that the backing is yellow flat texture, other side is black foam.

I know the OP asked for an OTC product, but my vote goes to Ultima Tire and Trim Guard.

I used several coats to start with (a little goes a long way). Seems to be the most durable, attracts the least dust, and cleans the easiest (of any of the dozen or so I've used over the years).

Does not have the shiny/bling look, but I prever a dark matte finish anyway. My 2 cents...

I used to use Armor all and 2000 whateva but got tired of the "fling off" plus I got away from the car show tire look.

I'm now using either 303 Protectant or a product called TC-15 (Tropi-Care)

No fling off and I still get a nice semi gloss long lasting shine. :bigups

I really don't care for any of the gels or thick spray type tire dressings due to the amount of sling I have gotten from them in the past even when used sparingly. I have found it rather difficult to get good even coverage with these type of products, especially around the very edges of the tires where the tread blocks are. I end up having to use quite a bit of product to get an even shine and to fill in the voids between the tread blocks where alot of the dressing tends to pool up between these areas causing the slinging.

I am currently using Stoners More Shine. A little of it goes a long way and is very easy to apply. The only downside to it is the cost.

Z-16 is most consistent in terms of gloss (matte) and durability. It has proven itselft to me over the years.

The AA Extreme gel is outstanding. I did get slinging the last time I used it,but the appearance is awesome. It lasts a while too, and one coat is all you need.

I just got Hot Shine tire gel,so that will be my next product to use. I liked Hot Shine in the aerosol can,but I always got overspray.

I sell a non-conventional tire shine through my web site wickedproducts.ca

This product is called Vinyl Guard and it is easy to apply by spraying a 3 x 5 sponge and wiping on the tire. It provides a very black, new tire, no sling finish and multiple coats will increase the sheen, if that's what you want. It will last a few washings and the best part is that it goes a long way and the Vinyl Guard can be used for multiple other applications such as dashes, seats (won't slip - I did my entire GT 500 leather interior and use it even on my Harley seat - and believe me, you don't want to slide around on a motorcycle seat.) I recognize that my opinion can be perceived as wanting to sell product, but quite frankly this stuff works.

I'm a little leary of the Hot Shine now after the thread where the guys paint got screwed up by it. That is why I try to avoid the aerosol stuff. It seems like no matter how hard I tried, some got caught in the wind and blew onto the body.

after awhile they will separate and you will have to use a new tire swipe. My main problem with them though is that it's supposed to help my fingers from getting grungy but after awhile the dressing will soap up through the foam and up into the more dense, yellow foam handle.

Currently my favorite high shine dressing is Duragloss' Wet Look Tire Shine. It has a high shine without looking greasy and because I prefer a satin sheen over a high shine, IMO it looks better over time. It lasts for awhile too compared to other solvent-based dressings I've used in the past. The downside is that it's too expensive IMO at close to $10/bottle and it's only available OTC at Carquest, maybe Napa's? (check your local store first). As much as I like it, I'm sure I'll be able to find another product to substitute it once I'm done with the bottle. It's just tire dressing after all and I don't want to pay premium prices for something that wears off within weeks.

I'm going to have to try the AA extreme shine gel that BigAl3 recommends. I haven't been let down by his suggestions before. Btw Al, the Eagle One All Wheel cleaner is pretty awesome, too bad it doesn't come in gallons!

Same. I use it first line.

IMO, the key is applying to a well cleaned tire then circling back after 10 mins to buff in with the applicator. Let 'er sit for 30 mins and you're good to go...without slinging.

also, i forgot to mention... i'll take the leaf blower after i've worked in the tire dressing/gel, and blow it one last time and it helps to dry (especially in the colder months) and remove any excess from the tread, etc...

Also AA Extreme Gel comes with the best tire swipe, I've had mine for over a year and still works like new. The groove holds the gel and surrounding area absorbs as well making it nice to spread around, other swipes just smear the product. I had some Eagle One swipes I threw out, thought they were junk.

I also use a thin amount of AA Extreme Gel on some of my trim like rear bumper and wiper cowl and side view mirrors, then buff it to remove any excess, works much much better then any other trim product I've tried, blows away Poorboys Trim Restorer.

Zaino Z16 is the best I've found, and I've tried many. I don't care for the gels because they generally don't look very natural and often stay tacky and collect dirt/dust. Mothers FX and Vinylex are decent, but don't last as long.

i know what you mean, i have a few laying around and i won't be buying anymore. i like to use these, the foam holds up better and it's one piece so you don't have to worry about it coming un-glued, ripped, etc..
