Good sealant available locally?

For an off road vehicle, I would just decon

and then do a light polish. This is just so

the coating can bind.

A seal will most likely be affected by surface

prep, meaning it will last longer on cleaner areas.

I know that many people polish to lock in perfect

paint, and this takes much equipment. But,

couldn't one use hyper compound by hand??

I like megs ultimate for store bought stuff.

If you are interested in coating, you should not

need to get it professionally done. It is fairly easy,

If you can follow some easy instructions.

In order to install yourself, try some Opti Seal.

This is my fave seal, and applies just like Opti Coat.

Plus, you can use the seal over Opti Coat.

The question is a coating for you.

You want a locally found seal.

Something bought in store will need applied

more often than an Opti Coat.

I would try to estimate the cost of a sealant

for an entire year. How many times you would

need to apply times the cost per application.

I would also estimate the time spent sealing

over the course of a year. You are going to want

the protection for off reading, well how long

will it take for all applications for a year?

I personally evaluated seals versus Oc for

price and time, and that is what drove my choice.

As for difference between that and another clear,

I don't know.

I do know that it is 50 to 100 times thicker than

most layers of Wax. This is 1 to 2 microns thick.

Something to keep in mind is that I don't want this protection for offroading.  There is no sealant or wax that is going to protect the vehicle when the rocker slams into a boulder or a tree reaches out and grabs the entire left side of your truck, front to back.  I only care about corrosion protection.  So, as long as I've got a solid coat of paint that isn't UV damaged or weakened from the environment, then I'm good to go.  Taking care of this paint will keep it protecting the metal longer.  My paint is, overall, even aesthetically, in great shape.  I want to keep it that way.

RVM- The corrosion protection shouldn't be a biggie unless your offroading scrapes something down to bare metal, and you might oughta touch up any such damage anyhow (though IME that's not *nearly* as necessary as "the experts" would have one believe  ;) and I'm talking long-term first-hand-experience too) .  For what you're dealing with, I'd find something that lasts a reasonably long time and is easy to redo.

I'm still thinking Duragloss, maybe topped with the Meg's Ultimate or OK...yeah, the Collinite.  That'd probably work better on a "it's gonna be abused!" vehicle than most sealants (which really only look OK over basically perfect paint).   Keep this simple.

If you cannot find Collinite 476S,  you may find its equivalent twin, 885 Fleetwax , at a marine/boat supply store, as suggested above. Here in the Great Lakes Midwest, that's not a problem to find it over-the-counter (OTC). It's about $32.00 locally for a 12 oz. can that has at least 20 car/truck applications in it. Its a great wax that really holds up in our Wisconsin winters and it has a great shine to it. Not Pinnacle Souveran or Chemical Guy's 50/50 Concours shine, but very good for a daily driver application. I really like it for door jams as a "release" wax when snow melts and turns to ice in the jam; I've never had a door freeze shut on me, or after going through a tunnel touchless car wash in the winter. (But I cheat; I wipe my car down, including door jams,  with a WaffleWeave towel after a car wash!)

I agree on the OptiCoat as well. Especially after you mentioned all the touchup paint. It's like a clearcoat over top of that. AND the durability and ease of use is amazing.

I find it intriguing that a 1 micron coating could replace 30 micron clear coat.

Having said that, personally, for an off roader coating could be a waste of money. Whatever 1 micron is added may not be sufficient to effectively prevent scratches from dirt and debris. It might help in wash marring.

If I were you, I would pick up a sealant which wouldn't cost a bomb and repels dirt efficiently. That way it helps to keep my off roader cleaner. Oh and did I forget easy to apply so that I could top it once in a while after the wash.

Personally I would go with something like Sonax PNS or Sonax P&S.
