Good deal at Home Depot

A couple of years ago before Christmas Sears had every manner of light like that on sale, so you might try there.

Yep! That's where/how I got mine a few years ago. They had their Craftsman 1000w stand lights on sale for <$20 IIRC (been a while). Seems like it was between $15-$20 during that time.

Do y'all find the light from these lamps too harsh? I have a single 500W lamp that's free-standing (on the floor) and find the light very hot and bright to the point of not being very helpful.

Perhaps mounting high up on the pedestal is an improvement (?).

Oh, yeah. Halogen bulbs get very hot. Good thing in the winter, no so good in the summer. The lights do highlight swirls though. You need to move yourself and them around to best see all the swirls. The best light for seeing swirls would be a small but very bright point-source of light. As the surface area of the light increases the swirl seeing decreases. That's the main reason florescent lights don't do as well.

FWIW, Craftsman Club members can take advantage of this dual head 1000W halogen unit in a 70" tripod for $18.99 through October 28. Normally sells for $30

I've been to the store, they had two of these at $40 each. Looks like a very nice piece adjustable from 250W, 500W, 750W to 1000W. However, it doesn't appear in the Craftsman Club circular dated Oct 22-28 and I looked three times. I left without it. :sadpace:

I've called Sears. The discounts thru the Craftsman Club are regional and do not apply to my area at this time.

Maybe you should have had them scan it. It was on the CC e-mail notice they sent to me. Perhaps you were looking at the wrong model # as the normal price was listed as $29.

If you are interested, the better ($60) Regency model that I got at Lowes can now be gotten with a $10 off coupon.

They did scan it. It came up $40. I can get the internet pricing ($30) in the store, they would do that.

I have since attempted to buy it on-line using my Craftsman Club card....no discount given for my local area (zip code based).

It's still probably a good deal at $30. This unit is very hefty compared to some of the el-cheapo units I've held elsewhere. OTOH, the urgency to buy this unit has completely evaporated as I can't take the time to ride back to the store again....perhaps in the future.

Another opportunity to get that $40 Craftsman 1000 watt halogen portable work light for $19.95 comes on Black Friday. No Craftsman Club card needed. Probably a good idea to arrive early. Check with store for Black Friday hours. Maybe also check on availability before Black Friday.

Craftsman 250/500/750/1000 Watt Halogen Portable Light

Complete list of Sears BLACK FRIDAY items.

And if you don't want to take your chances on getting the light for $19.99 you can use your Craftsman Club card from Nov 5 - 11 and buy it for $24.99

Another tip: If you want that light (or some other tool) buy it during the Craftsman Club sale (Nov 5-11) and on Black Friday drop in to your nearest Sears store with your receipt and have the price adjusted. Sears has a 30 day price guarantee.

Yes! Could be my personal "best deal of the year". I am anxious to get the box open and the lamps set up.

The system indicated the F'ham was out of inventory. I went to the Dedham store.

The Ashland "tool" store had two of them last week. Packaging was different than the item I just picked up...P/N was the same. I "think" you can get the Ashland store to give you the $20 price assuming they can find it on-line...at least that's what they told me.

The search system doesn't appear to check the "tool/hardware" stores. You can telephone them prior to making the trip to check inventory.

regarding the sears halogen light stand, hopefully you won't experience what these 4 reviews have.... :nixweiss

"I just purchased this light from a Sears going out of business store. So while the price was fair it also was non refundable. The lights worked great. However when opening up the tripod the plastic parts broke up into several pieces. Since there wasn't a parts list there's no way to order a replacement on those broken parts. So i have a really good light with a broken tripod."

problems/blown bulbs, October 30, 2006

"I thought this deal was great. I purchased the single 500W Tripod lamp and it began blowing bulbs! @ $6 a bulb I stoppped buying new bulbs after #3. So I purchased the 1000W tripod lamp and in less than 1 hour I blew one of the bulbs. I am so disappointed and now have to send both out eventually for service. I wonder how much that will cost?!?"

:nixweiss Hmm, well, I know mine hasn't had a single problem in the 3 years I've had it.

I always take such reviews with a grain of salt. Also, you know what they say about how people will always tell how bad a product may be, but almost never write about how good it is. 9 times outta 10 people will tell the bad and never the good. After all, how many people would really write a review and say their light set works fine? Probably not many, I'm guessing. From the thousands that they have likely sold, I'd say that 3 people are hardly a representation of the majority. Maybe a bad batch or something? But, that's my opinion. Hopefully others will have the luck I've had....no problems.

Besides, Sears will take almost anything back. :D
