Good Combo?

Right guys,

I am now planning my first Autopian detail to my skyline. WIth all the products i need at hand this is what my pakn is looking like;

1. Wash car with Fairy Liquid (UK equivalent to Dawn)

2. Clay all panels with Pinnacle Poly Clay.

3. Wash again with Meg GC shampoo

4. Use PC with yellow/wool pad and either Menzerna IP or DACP

5. PC and white pad with Menzerna FP

6. #7

7. PC with grey pad and BF all finish paint protection

8. Liquid Souveran.

DOes this sound ok?? The car is from Japan and it has minor to moderate swirls aswell as some slightly etched watermarks which were due to the transit on the boat from Japan.

Also need to know whether the LS will remove any of the BF paint protection.

Kind regards

Gerry

I wouldn't bother with step 3 but others may chime in saying otherwise.

Step 4 is an either either. Go with wahts cheapest and/or locally available.

I would also recommend a paste wax rather than a liquid as the carriers in liquid waxes are generally pretty harsh on polymers and *may* remove it. Maybe consider S100/PS21/Megs #16 or #26?

Apart from that, it looks good.

Remember to post some pics when you are done!

You can try doing like this:

Wash with Megs GC *and* clay while you wash, that is, wash a panel, clay it using that soapy watter on the surface, rinse. You'll be washing and claying at the same time.

After drying (WW towels)

Use the IP with a Yellow pad (wool pads are meant to be used with rotaries). Work the product until it starts to dry and then remove with MF towel. Inspect the surface, if required repeat. When you're satisfied, move to a white pad and IP again, this will clean the micro mar left by the yellow pad.

Now, for a great finish, use the gray pad to apply the FP, again work until the product starts to dry then remove.

After this either apply BF or LS w/ (another) grey pad or by hand.

Have fun

;)

Your plan sounds alright, although I'd take some of the suggestions made by others.

Since this is your first detail though, and you're new to this, I suggest trying out a slightly gentler method first, such as IP or DACP with a polishing pad, before deciding if you need to get more aggressive with the cutting pad. Try it on a section first, and then evaluate your results and go from there. It's a very general rule that you may or may not have heard before: Try the gentlest approach that you think will work first.

Liquid Souveran may be one of the safe exceptions to the problem 6cyl's mentioned, as it seems to have milder solvents in it than other waxes. I believe a test or two was run with LS sometime last year. Try to find it if you're curious.

Good luck. :)

Basically what the others said, but use car wash soap only. There is no reason to use Dawn or anything similar unless you are prepping for Zaino.
