Going to Clay..then wax...quick question...

I have a 2006 Murano (metallic navy blue) and have had it for a few months. Looks like the dealer scratched it when they "detailed" it for delivery........Light scratches and swirls.

The claying part I have down....have done the Lightning a few time....but I have a question.

If I hand wax with NXT, can I take it off with an orbital with a MF wrapped around the pad?

This would just expedite the process and make it go quicker.

Anyone ever do this? Is this a no-no?

thanks!

I've heard of people doing this and using microfiber bonnets to remove wax, but I personally don't like the idea much, as the towel/bonnet can cake up...but mostly because it is so easy to remove by hand.

I like removing wax with mf bonnets. It's easier and more consistent than doing it by hand.

As long as you apply NXT very thin (the way it's supposed to be done) and let it dry completely you can easily remove it from a sports car with a single mf bonnet (I usually turn it inside out half way through). For a Murano I'd try to have at least two handy but one might be enough.

Approach it with consistent overlapping passes. You'll still need to use towels in areas the buffer doesn't fit well.

I've never tried wrapping a mf towel around the pad or pressing one between the buffer and the finish but I've heard of guys doing it. Sounds too floppy for my tastes but like I said, I haven't tried it.

PC.

thanks for the replies everyone....I have a few MF bonnets, but I was going to add a towel underneath the bonnet for more cushion.

I was just wondering of anyone had tried this. I do apply it thin and let dry for about 15-20 minutes and then remove. I add two coats and then go over the entire car with a finishing MF towel to remove any leftover dust/wax.

Thanks again !!!

People have been doing the towel-on-the-polisher thing since forever (e.g., terry towels on a Cyclo in the '50s) and it works OK. The bonnets work better but you have to use what you have.

Just watch that the MF doesn't slip out from under the polisher ;)
