What's the shelf life on Optimum Gloss-Coat or any coating for that matter?

I think CQuartz UK is 1 year shelf and 6 months after opening. However I had some crystallizing after it had been open about 3 months. On Gloss Coat it says to destroy after single use (not sure about unopened) but I plan on testing some of my left overs (about a month and a half old) out on my wife's wheels.

I'm going to start offering a "money back guarantee from Jsmooth" with all purchases of Optimum Gloss-Coat. If you can't cover a Bentley with a 10cc syringe, call Jsmooth at 867-5309 :).
Thanks Ray! I just saw this! I'm only offering money back in form of lobster dinner when in SF bay area on me!

We need to set a better baseline I think ---

When you say you used XXcc's of product, please be sure to add what kind of applicator you used for the process, and how many coats were applied..

Certainly, the little round foam yellow applicator will soak up more product than a very thin suede cloth, or even a blue paper towel that is backed by something that does not soak up fluid at all..

Help us all get a better idea of how much product is actually on the vehicle and left over, by also telling us what applicator was used...

My long term experience with the Opti-Guard (Pro) and 2.0 versions is that as long as they are a clear liquid in the Syringe, they are still good to go..

Thanks !

I have 2 tubes of gloss coat on the way to me. Once I get a break in the weather I have 2 opticoated 2.0 vehicles that need re coating. Before I recoat them I plan to use the reset shampoo I also purchased recently Bc people tell me it will bring back the OC 2.0. I will try that but honestly it has been 2 years plus and I'd be shocked if it started beading to my satisfaction. We will see.

If one tube cannot get me paint ( including jambs), wheels and trim -2 coats all surfaces I'm done with with Opticoat. I really think they should give you enough product so your not sweating coverage for that amount of money. They should also provide the best applicator for the job.

I ordered the CQuartz applicators per everyone's suggestion. If I get the coverage on the whole MDX great. I will coat the subaru. If not I will complete the MDX with the 2nd tube and let you know. Perhaps I am worrying about nothing :).

Oddly enough Optimum has come out with their own suede cloth applicator similar to the CQuartz one, the OPT one even has a way to tuck in the suede so you don't have to hold it. But there has been no announcement, promotion, etc. of this product (like most of the other new products introduced within the last year, even Gloss-Coat). You can find the Optimum applicator at the Opti-Coat.net store.

Good point. As far as I know Chris Thomas is still a sponsor here. It's really unfortunate that he (as well as many other sponsors) aren't taking advantage of this venue the way they could.

The even odder thing is I tried to get some info on these new products at the Optimum forum, and couldn't get the company rep to provide any information as he was afraid that would be construed as "selling". Huh? Finally after a lot of prodding I got them to at least post the label information from the new products.

Not at all. If anything they stay to gain more than ever with the increased traffic of both Autopias. It's been a battle that as kept people scratching their head all the way back since the DavidB days.

Hi guys,
Have any of you tried spraying Gloss Coat yet with an airbrush? I have a new vehicle coming to my personal stable and am considering trying to spray rather than use the usual CarPro block plus microsuede that I have done historically.
Looking to get a somewhat thicker coating for durability purposes.
Regards,
Pete

I personally don't spray them, but I know you can. With the changes in the formulation and with primer polish it really makes application super easy. And I use the blue foam OPT applicator too.

Same here. Gloss-Coat is incredibly easy. Why not just do two coats? As long as you apply the second one within an hour you should be good to go.

Historically, I have done two coats, both of original OC 2.0 and now of gloss coat. I was just attracted to the idea of potentially being able to lay down a thicker (and potentially longer-lasting) application of gloss coat without having to worry nearly as much about high spots.

In addition, the vehicle has a lot of vents/intakes that have mesh, to which application via spray would be more able to coat all the surfaces.

I don't think that those of us who aren't "pros" can get primer polish, or can we?

Thanks for the input y'all!
