Anyone use any gliptone products?

They sell em at Napa, pepboys and all, but i've searched and searched, and never seen anything written about them.

I've tried their QD (bright pink) and I like it a lot. But they have a few paste waxes and such that I keep getting sooo close to buying, but end up sticking to Autopian recommendations instead....

So.. Thoughts on this stuff? Any of it worth a second look?

Why the lack of talk on the site?

It's a regional brand - made on Long Island by a guy name Rocco.

I've never seen it anywhere but NYC Metro down to Philly area.

I used Gliptone years and years ago.Not a bad product but with all the new products out there i would take a pass

We used to get the product line (in CT) where I lived...haven't seen it for years, though.

There was another gliptone thread earlier this year.

I use Gliptone :)

I've tried a ton of their products and they easily beat out most over the counter stuff (I use the professional line).

What I keep coming back to is the Carnauba Body Gloss (Pink QD) and the Pro-Buff (like VM). The Pro-Buff is an EXCELLENT cleaner for oxidation, minor swirls, and other defects and leaves a great shine!

Just Pro-Buff applied

I used it once on my friends car. It did its job. At the time it worked nice and cheaper a few other brands. It smelled nice though. I never really brought it though.

I have a CAP auto parts near me and I bought the Gliptone Pastewax. It's not bad..smells great..does leave a little white residue, but not bad. Nice shine...not really sure why it's not more popular.

I read, somewhere, that their car wash soap is very good..and cheap.

It seems to be mostly a regional thing when other companies like mothers and megs is nationwide. It also looks like they don't spend much on marketing right now. People just don't know about it. I probably wouldn't have tried it because never heard of it or read about it. The peps boys I was at like 3 years ago had a Gliptone guy demo it.

R&S Strauss sells the whole line. I have used them in the past and I too have been considering the Gliptone paste with teflon. The thing I remember was it was difficult to remove no matter how thin it was applied and it left white powdery residue on the car. It did leave a nice shine and a very slick surface and durability was above average. I just sold myself and will be getting a can tonight.

I think i'll go with the whole line next payday, and let you know how it goes.

I'm gonna get the:

Probuff

paste with teflon (paste or liquid??)

bodygloss QD

wash-N-glow

and maybe the pro glaze...

The only question I really have is if it's worth the extra work for the paste wax with teflon, or if I should just go with the liquid...

3m used to say teflon doesn't do anything to help but people say the new teflon line is nice but over priced.

Here's the reply from Gliptone regarding Teflon:

What is in your Platinum Series® Paste and Cream Waxes that gives so much gloss and durability to my paint finish? Is it the Teflon®?

No it is not the Teflon®. Teflon adds lubricity however does very little to extend the durability of these products. In fact Teflon must be heated in excess of 600ºf before it will bond to a surface. Since that is not possible with a paint finish there are other polymers that are used in these products that chemically bond to the paint finish forming a synthetic skin that protects your paint finish. When used on brand new paint finishes (not previously waxed with Carnauba based products) our Platinum Series products become the ideal choice because these polymers are given the opportunity to bond to new paint finish. Keep in mind, after sealing your paints finish with either the Platinum Series Paste or Cream Wax, it is perfectly acceptable to add a Carnauba wax product as a topcoat as well as maintenance coats in the future.

To be honest, I have no idea.

But that stuff you linked too seems pretty good.. Do they sell it in the US anywhere??

edit: While i'm in here, does anyone have a preference to the liquid/paste for the teflon wax? With the rumors of it being a PIA to apply in paste form, I'm half ready to go liquid and apply with a PC.

But I also tend to prefer paste waxes for the less solvent content and increased durability...
