Glass is driving me nuts...

I cannot get rid of the water spots for the life of me. It seems like no matter what I use I cannot get the windows sparkling clean. It is really pushing my obsessive buttons. Can anybody recommend a good product to use? Any advice is appreciated! :)

Try taking #0000 steel wool and a strong window cleaner and rub the exterior glass. Try distilled white vinegar as well.

After you do that, you can use AIO on glass for water spots.

My grandmother's Civic which is 8 years old and ungaraged and never washed got that treatment. The windows were a mess. They cleaned up spotless and sparkly!

Can't you use newspaper on the outside of the windows along with a good window cleaner?

(assuming you haven't neglected it for 8 years... ):)

You could (many people here do advocate that approach), but that would be just for normal cleaning.

Getting off stuborn water spots is another battle. Like Spilchy said, some #0000 steel wool and window cleaner would work, or just try some polish. I personally haven't had too much success with AIO and windows, but polish usually takes care of alot.

I had some really stubborn water spots on my Navigator's windshield and side windows also. What I did was get some 0000 steel wool and I used Meguiars #4 Heavy Cut Cleaner very liberally. Rub it into the glass really thorough until it is pretty much all absorbed. You should be able to see the water spots removed. Take a microfiber towel and remove all the polish. Inspect the window and continue until all the spots are removed. Once I have finished with the cleaner, I will use a window cleaner and follow up with a good cleaner wax, such as Mothers or Meguiars. It gave me great results.:bounce

It'll be fine to use sealant on the glass, as long as you don't need to use your wipers. Wipers + wax = smearing. Very difficult to see.

If you want to use a sealant or wax on the glass, skip the windshield. A good ammonia free cleaner like 20/20 will bead up water in the rain almost like Rain-X

Clay the windshield with Clay Magic or Mothers Clay.

Make a mixture of equal parts or Isopropyl Alcohol, Distilled Water and White Vinegar.

That should take care of your water spots.

In addition to the above comments, try Bon Ami. BMW had a service bulletin a few years ago recommending its use, if all else fails:

BMW Service Bulletin

Noisy Wipers, Poor Cleaning: Group 61 Electrical

SUBJECT:

Windshield Wipers Are Noisy Or Do Not Clean Properly

MODELS:

All

Situation:

Windshield wiper blades may start to make noise, or fail to clean the windshield properly, even though the blades are not worn and are properly adjusted.

This can be caused by contaminants on the glass, such as oily road deposits or wax residues from car washes. These contaminants can cause the blades to chatter across the glass or fail to wipe cleanly.

Correction:

Common contaminants that are not removed by conventional glass cleaner can be cleaned with Bon Ami(R), a household cleaning product.

The cleaner should be applied on a wet cloth or sponge and the windshield must be thoroughly and evenly scrubbed. Wipe off residue with a clean, dry cloth before the product dries on the glass.
