Glass coatings

I have been recently looking at glass coatings such as 22ple. For those that have tried this or similar coatings , I would like your feed back. I'm aware of the shorter life of 18-24 months vs OC and the higher cost.Kind of looking for a little more bling for a weekend crusier. One good friend and forum member (Tom Weed) has contacted me and gave me his thoughts on his first trial of this coating. Tom has always been spot on with his reviews and had good things to say about this product. Before pulling the trigger and trying the coating I would like to hear from others that may have experience with this type of coating or 22ple itself.

Why not just stick to OC or OG? Permanent and cheaper.

I have used OC/OG and have been very happy with its performance. I offer it to customers as well as having it on my own vehicles. With that being said I'm looking to find a coating with a little more bling/shine/wet look for seldom driven garage queen/weekend crusiers etc. Some that have tried the new coatings are telling me I would like the results that they are getting. Thats the reason for this thread to gather up comments from those that have used this new coating whether it be pro or con. This forum has a ton of quality detailers with a lot of experience so I'm kind of picking the brains for feedback. Somebody on here might have had a major problem with this that they would like to share or even just the opposite.

Be careful of that Tom Weed guy. He's just a hack------- j/k Tom

I have bottles of CQuartz Finest (2yr warranty) as well as 22PLE....I just need to find the time to do some testing. I also have the regular CQuartz as well as Qtechniq C1.

Lee from BespokeCarCare has some interesting testing going on with various coatings right now. They are still in process but he has a bunch of videos loaded up on Youtube you can check out.

Basically they all offer unique attributes and you have to decide which is most important to you and your client. The glass coatings appear to be more scratch resistant and tend to offer better gloss (based on others testing), but Opti-Guard is still the clear winner when it comes do durability. There is also variation in water beading/sheeting, dirt releasing, dust attraction, ease of application....again you have to decide what is most important to you.

GTechniq EXO has some crazy water characteristics to it and Todd has said 22ple is very easy to apply. CQuartz Finest comes with a 2yr warranty, great scratch resistance and gloss, but it's not offered to the public. Corey has said CQuartz UK is stupid easy to apply so I'll be picking that one up as well.

I'm sure the good Dr has something in the works too knowing him. ;)

Thanks Rasky. This is exactly along the lines I'm liking for. Thanks for the links and info. I truly understand that one product may not be perfect for every application and one should not limit one selves. I see market for various coatings at this time. Please keep us up to date on you testing when time allows.

PS. Do you have any spare room in your luggage for me on your trip to California ?

My 2 cents...

I have used OC on probably 8 vehicles plus mine, and I have used the original formula of CQuartz on my lady's car and now I just tried 22ple on my black GP. While I preferred OC over CQuartz for the ease of application and it seemed to do better against bird bombs and scratches, (I had spotting on her car after bird bombs) I must say, I really like the look of 22ple VX1 Pro over OC. Being totally objective and honest here, my car is noticeably glossier looking and feels slicker than say OC. I had some birds attack it yesterday and it wiped right off after spraying a detail spray to soften the bombs up and no spotting whatsoever. I can't comment on the durability of this coating obviously other than what I've read. I am impressed on the application process and the appearance. Now the bad... It is double the price of OC, and doesn't last as long from what I've read, but I am sure there's a high end market for this coating because it does offer more "bling" IMO and lets face it, after two years, even if you have OC installed and you are like me, you are going to want your car re-polished and re-coated by then anyways...

Great point. I had customer asking me why they should get 22ple over OC if it doesn't last as long. 22ple has really ridiculous gloss to it, and if you car about your car appearance, then in 2 years you gonna have some swirls and scratches on your car that would need to be polished and it would require to reapply the coating anyway. With a 50ml bottle offered for detailers you can cover two medium size passenger cars which makes it not much more expensive than OC.

Love OC...I love it ease of application, durability etc. Application is basically the same very easy. The big stand out is the gloss that is left on the surface compared to other coatings. I recently coated two cars in CT with DJ Mayo, after full correction the results were amazing.
