Glass Cleaning??

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
Glass cleaning is always a labor of love for me. I use Sprayaway and Stoners for glass cleaner. No issues on the product, I think both are excellent cleaners.

My process is:

Spray cleaner on, let that dwell for a minute.
Huck surgical towel to wipe the glass.
Micro fiber glass towel to dry and buff
Eye glass cleaner towel (extra large version) to buff one last time.

That said the glass looks prefect while in the garage and even when I pull it into the sun, until I get out of the car and look back at the windshield. You can see smudges on the inside of the window, they can look like an oily like effect, such as you might see on a new car from out gassing. Once I can see these I can do another wipe down that that seems to take care of it.

My question back is what's your process and or tips and tricks to getting better results.

Thanks:)

Before applying any solutions to interior glass, I vacuum or dust the glass surface with a MF towel. Dust particles may contain some contaminants that create streaks when rubbed against the surface. Dust particles also contaminate the cloth and the smudges amplify as you continue to clean each glass surface.

Try it and let me know if makes a difference for you.

After the surface is dust free, I clean with Meguiar's and finish with a Poorboy's glass towel.

I always have excellent results.

I have same problem beemerboy it drives me nuts and such a waste a time errrrr. :wall I use same things you do Sprayaway on interior, and stoner exterior the liquid one not aresal because can one gets on paint like sprayaway. This is actually probably one of the most time consuming things I do all day because we do offer a wash vac service and I always have to QC windows for my guys its soooooo annoying. I'm gonna try MF wipe first Mr. gloss suggested let you know in like an hour!

Dave, I had this problem many years ago and found this method to work the best for me. Here is what I been doing once every 2 weeks on my interior windshield ( which is a pain ). I have a spray bottle mix with about 16 oz of distilled water, then I add about 1-2 oz's of white vinegar and 1 oz of rubbing alcohol in the bottle. I then shake the bottle so they are combine and ready for spraying. I fold my towel in small square's that fit on my palm of my hand and also make sure to use a lint free towel like those ones they use at the hospital ( surgical type) then spray a good amount of it onto the towel. Then wipe down the interior glass, working always on one window at a time. Work the way you like using to clean the glass, from there the windows should be clean and remember to buff each window quickly. I use my glass microfiber towel to wipe over the window with any of my glass cleaner's and then when I'm done I don't see no more smudges or streaks.

I always had on hand : microfiber towels , and these cleaners too: Spraywayor Stoner's
and patience too. Hope this helps you.

I recently done a Ford Econoline van that had RainX used on the inside of the glass (I found this out after an hour of cussing the window). Talk about streaks..I never did find a solution to it. I usually do have much problem with glass, but this one drove me insane. To add to the problem, it was in direct sunlight all day while temps exceeded 105. Hell of a day lol.

errrr windows blow. Angelo's plan is working the best out of these suggested ideals for a one and done! although the smell is a little off after your done....

Better late than never but I use whatever glass cleaner I have on hand and Newspaper. Its and old trick from back in the day. Alot of people still use this method today and even use it in their houses. Hope this helps.

Most glass cleaners have a higher specific gravity then the oil. Oil floats on top of the glass cleaner... This is great when cleaning the exterior of the glass since the the angle of the glass means that oil is wiped away quickly. On the interior the glass acts to trap the oil on top and it becomes difficult to remove.

The best bet would be to clean the interior glass twice. The first time use an ample amount of solution and a more vigorous wiping motion to dilute as much oil as possible. For the second wipe, use a light light amount and clean a small section at a time (break the windshield into 2-4 places).

I have used IPA and water, similar to what zoomzoom mentioned, as well as ONR at detailer strength is a spray bottle. I use alot of towels to clean glass. because the first towel is removing the dirt, film, smoke residue, greasy finger prints, dog snout slobber, etc etc etc... the second towel is to go back over the glass, and the third to buff once it clean and dry.

I may be a little late to this, but windows always suck and this is the one method I've found that seems to work for me...

Before I spray 'anything' on the glass, I take a black/white newspaper (colored pages don't work the same) and lightly crumple it up keeping it kinda loose. Then, rub the window all over, top to bottom, side-to-side and re-crumpling/flipping the newspaper as I go.

Once that's done, I hit the windows with a light coat of Stoners and wipe off with a MF towel. If it looks like it needs it, I'll hit them one more time, but usually that gets all the streaks out nicely.
