GG6 vs MT300: rethinking my choices..

^ tha'ts funny, Accumulator!

Status Update: I got to use my GG6 for the first time this last weekend. Until now, I've been using the PC 7424xp.

I used the GG6 with a Meguiar's backing plate for the 5" MF Cutting Discs and the D300 compound. And.....LOVED IT. I used the Meg's 3" backing plate on the PC for the smaller sections. Let me tell you, there were a couple of times I swapped that 3" plate onto the GG6. It just has more "power."

But MT300 vs GG6. I've used both, now. For the price difference alone (I can't afford to spend TOOOO much on products!) I would go with the GG6. If I were doing a whole lot more paint correction, and getting paid decently for those jobs, then maybe the light feel and balance of the MT300 would come into play. But, at that point, throw in the GG's warranty, and we're back to the GG6.

Yikes. I'm trying to help, but I'm afraid I just made OP's decision harder! SORRY MAN

When it comes to whom to trust over standing behind the polisher or other Griot's vs. Meguiars questions- Just IMO, but I say you could almost just ask yourself "Would I rather be stuck in an elevator with Barry Meguiar or with Richard Griot?" and base your choice on that sort of ad-hominum comparison.

Before I could make that decision I'd need to find out their hygene habits!!

I replaced my old PC with an MT300 (I use the PC with 3'' plate/pads only, now). The MT300 is an altogether better polisher; much smoother/quieter (especially when using the recommended 5'' plate and Meguiar's thin pads) and it's a lot more powerful. I have no trouble keeping the pad spinning, and I only use the 5800 opm setting (max is 7200 opm, IIRC). It corrects much more quickly than the PC. The ergonomics are also much better (although, for those who don't use the basket handle, the palm rest/grip is a little too small).

I haven't used a GG6 polisher, so I can't compare it to the MT300. From what I've read, however, the MT300 is noticeably smoother/quieter than it, as well. Smoother/quieter was very important to me when I upgraded to a new polisher, so I didn't consider the GG6. Its lifetime warranty is a valuable feature, though.
