getting the most outta your wax

so im trying to get ready to protect my car throughout this coming winter, but cant figure out my wax cant last for more than a month at a time. i have a daily driving car thats park outside, and gets a weekly wash. about 5 weeks ago a hit it with some 1zgw and it was working like a champ. 1zgw made it through a couple of heat waves, a shower a week, and on the 4th week it got hit with a shower of tree sap that was washed away easily (didnt even need to clay) and was still beading. then a week later it rained for about 3 days straight and got really humid. so i did my weekly washed and noticed that i lost all beading, water spots didnt come off from the wash and the car was difficult to dry.

just trying to see how is it possible for wax to last 3 months at a time. ive looked around for durability with layering, but it seems that most would say that layering is just revitalizing the previous coat of wax and not improving durability?

i usually use either 1zgw or #26 and get about the same durability, 4-5 weeks.

I would suggest getting a spray wax or sealant like Optimum Car Wax (many vendors carry it), and using it following your weekly wash. It should help keep the car looking great and extend the life of the initial wax application (and help keep it beading).

Other than that, Collinite has been a notable mention for being a durable wax, as has Zaino Z2Pro (with a Z8 spray sealant follow-up). Good luck,

Turtle wax isn't the best compared to some others like meguiars nxt wash and eagle one wash. I have not used the new eagle one car wash that's blu but have used the older one and it did a great job. I stick with nxt now because the smell is just great, it foams a lot, and it doesent strip wax.

I used to use Turtle Wax car shampoo a long time ago, and found out very quickly that it strips protectants. I now use it for wheel duty, and use better shampoos.

When we still had the Volvo it was outside 24/7, including during the winter and it got used hard. Collinite 476S would definitely last all winter if I applied a few "layers" ("layers" being in quotes to avoid bringing up the "does carnauba layer" issue). I washed it with Griot's Car Wash.

I get incredible durability from KSG with four-six layers, but you'd better have the prep really right or any marring will show up a lot worse than with a wax like the 476S.
