Getting ready to purchase a PC

Hi Guys,

Getting ready to purchase a Porter Cable from Lowes but I want to make sure that it what I'm getting is the correct piece of equipment. Below are the specifications:

My question is this Porter Cable that everyone is talking about and if so why do they (Lowes) call it a "Sander". The reason I want to purchase at Lowes is because I want to get one ASAP. Second question is can I buy "pads" locally here in Laguna Niguel Orange County CA? This will be my first time using a PC. Initially I'll be using it to remove polishes/waxes that were applied by hand.

You can always remove the waxes and such by washing the car with a strong detergent like Dawn diswashing liquid. That does the trick. Polshers are used to remove swirls, not waxes. You can remove waxes by hand. Anyway, THIS LINK (CLICK HERE) may help you understand the difference. Most people are refering to the PC 7424 when they talk about it, but the 7336 works too.

The 7336 from Lowes is what you are looking for. Go to their web site and sign up for the 10% off coupon, makes the price even better. The 7336 comes with one polishing pad, so basically you can get started as soon as you open the box.

For pads/backplate locally, check out a Meguir's or paint/autobody supply

Thanks for the information guys. I guess I should clarify what I mean when I said "Initially I'll be using it to remove polishes/waxes that were applied by hand". Basically I'll be applying the polishes and waxes by hand and I'm looking for a easy/better way to remove them. I'm sure as I become more experienced with the tool I will use it for other things.
 
You should also consider using it to apply wax or polish. It will apply very evenl;y and just the right small amount you need. I love mine!

I prefer to do the opposite. I apply products with the PC then remove them by hand using high quality microfiber towels.

Yes.
Mine has been used for Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 since October of 2002 with no problem.
You will definitely need more pads, though. I have a total of 9, now. :-p
