getting my new rotary,any help you could give

I am getting my new rotary tomorrow and i have read just about every thing i could about the use of a rotary.But i still have a few ?,s,when everybody says stay away from the edges does this mean i should tape off the edges between the doors and fenders.I would think this means stay off the corners off the body panel,or am i wrong.I have used a pc for a long time and i just cant stand it any more cause of the time and limited correction it can do.

I have some presta ulcc and also menzerna pg,ip and fpll and was going to go at it but first wanted some tips on the rotary compared to the pc.I do know the basic,s but wanted to hear from some of the long time user,s.i will be using my edge pads,are these ok with a rotary.

Just heed the warnings of the guys that really know hoy to use a rotary, view all the movies you can on using, and use an old hood, fender, garden tractor, you get the point. Just don't let it scare you. The first time I used one, I was expecting it to knock me down, put holes in the metal, catch on fire and possibly cripple me forever!

It's just wasn't that way at all . If you can, use a wool pad for the first couple hours of learning. It is a lot smoother than a foam pad and doesn't hop or try to "skitter" like foam. After you get used to the wool, try the foam. Just try to keep things going in a flowing type action.

You really should spend a few hours/days on some practice materials.



I have did a couple of finders (junk) and some tractors (not junk), it kind of puts you at ease knowing you aren't going to hurt anything valuable.

I feel the same way about a rotary... like if I picked one up I would implode on contact hehe.

What are some good videos to watch for a rotary Changeling?



How long do you guys recommend using a PC before stepping up to a rotary?

Golly, Imatk I didn't bookmark them sorry, I wish I had ( I need to view them also, again, and again) You will just have to go to the web sites like Propper auto care, autogeek, topof the line, this web site, etc, (they have some great customer Information).



It really is worth it because they give you a sort of visual feel, but, it is still not the same as jumping in and giving it a go on your own. However I really believe viewing these videos really gives/helps with the feel of things, my opinion.



Now if David Feramoni will get off the "pot" and make a "Commercial Video" that is more than 1 to 3 minutes ( the norm), I mean a real VIDEO, that explains procedures in his usual "Calm and Serene Way" with great pictures, we all may start to see the light of experience that "shines" in his world of the Rotary polisher.

I have "Dibs' on the first copy, check will be in the mail!!

The web site you linked to is someplace I have never been, seems to be a detailing form, i don't know. As for detailing you are at the premier site on the WEB.



Common sense is probably one of the most underrated sources of expertise there is in any field/endever!

However, if you are going to just jump in on your own vehicle with a "Rotary" you will probably screw something up. I wouldn't take the things I said above lightly, you came to the forum for advise, I strongly suggest you take it.

As others have said there are a lot of great tips on here. Just do a search under 'rotary' and you'll get some great tips. This is without a doubt the best forum on the web for auto detailing that I have found and great helpful experienced people on here too.



Being a noob to the rotary myself I thought this dvd was great Buffing with Confidence. The link is the cheapest place I could find it online. It is a great video with a lot of tips. It's one thing to read about using a rotary but seeing it in action is even better. As long as you are careful the rotary is great. It is amazing how much faster you can correct the paint vs the PC DA.



I use the Menzerna products too and love them. I would recommend the Lake Country CCS pads. After doing a lot of reading on here they seem to be the best combo for Menzerna products. They are the only pads I have used and the work great.
