Getting lint out of MF Towels ARGG!!!

Im having an ongoing problem of my nice exterior MF's linting up. I only ever wash them with my "paint only" microfibers, but no matter what they lint up. I've even tried putting them in boiling water, and then washing them, but they continue to leave microfine lint.

I've got several different kinds of MF's in there as well. Some are the very nice and plush excel detailing MF's, and some are the nice MF's from Eshine. They aren't cheap MF's by any means.

At this point Im out of ideas. I've tried washing them, letting them air dry, I've tried washing them and putting them in the dryer on low low heat.

The only thing I haven't tried is adding vinegar (I read that might help?) to my wash.

I use just sunlight for washing the MF's and use hot water with a hot rinse cycle...

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts!!

Are you hand washing or machine? You should wash them in warm water, not boiling hot. I would stay away from the dryer, as there could be a source of lint in there, after all a dryer has a lint collector.

Dry them in the house, don't hang them on the line, who knows whats blowing around in the wind.

Im machine washing them, and I ALWAYS dry them in the house. I didn't think the dryer was a good idea, but I figured it was atleast work a shot.

Is just washing going to remove the lint? I wouldn't think so...

Hot water and the dryer will not harm them. Vinegar helps to release soap during the rinse cycle.

I would check the lint trap in both the washer and dryer and also the exhaust hose of the dryer.

I think the OP is saying that his towels are shedding that fine MF lint, not picking up other lint during the process. My experience with some towels like that is that they seem to keep linting no matter how many times you wash them.

Yeah, that's what I think too.

I never use *any* plush/regular MFs on glass for this reason, but I'm a little surprised that they're shedding so badly that it's an issue on paint. I'd relegate those towels to some noncritical duty and get some new ones for the application where the lint is a problem.

If it's your towels that are shedding lint, then maybe you need to try some quality MF (not really sure what kind you are using). They're not cheap but Cobra makes really good MF towels. Pakshak also sells quality MF for good prices.

I've also had problems with MF on glass. Now i only use waffleweave or terry cloth for windows.

Mcnab, just to verify, are you having problems with the towels themselves linting or did they collect lint after a wash or dry cycle and you are trying to find a way to remove the lint? Also, are they the Tornado towels or our standard towels?

The yellow Sams towels were known for linting.

Yellow? Hmmm, how long ago were they sold? Over the past could of years the only MFs I've seen at Sams Club is the 25 pack of blue towels and haven't had problems with them. They're also cheap enough that when one gets debris snagged into the towel that doesn't want to come out readily, I have no problems just pitching it.

Probably been at least two years since any were purchased there. I did notice blue one the last time I was There.

My Cobras also shed (purple plush, and also the WW glass towels).

It's not as severe as my Target orange vroom towels (not there's a lint nightmare), but its still there.

Not too noticeable on paint though, so otherwise they're great towels.

To tell you the truth, the towels I've had the least problem with (although its still there... I suppose all MF towels lint to a certain extent), surprisingly enough, are my first three MF towels I bought from Advance Auto Parts :nixweiss:

Sorry guys, I missed this post the last couple days. I'll try to clarify my situation....

Chris, I BELIEVE the lint I've got is a result of washing and or drying. But I could be very wrong. Im not sure how to tell the difference between lint given off naturally by some MF's and lint that comes as a result of my washing or drying techniques. I believe it may be a little of both.

Also the towels that I've got are the Zuma MF polishing towels from Excel Detail. I've also got a few of your standard towels as well from Eshine but I think the lint Im getting from those is a result of screwing up the other towels and contaminating those ones. I've washed them together in the same batch now, which probably didn't help me

What would everyone recommend for MF towels specifically for removing polish residue? I don't mind spending on quality towels. I see the Cobra towels, but then see a thread in here with problems with them linting as well. I don't need glass MF's or Drying towels, Im just looking for a nice plush MF's for buffing polish residue, as well as for final buffing off of wax / sealents etc.

It seems to be the consent that my current towels are toast, and will be relished to interior duty.

Bump...So Autogeek doesn't have the Cobra Indigo towels in stock that I was looking for. They won't have them in till the end of April, and I need to stock up ASAP...Does anyone else sell the Indigo towels in bulk?

You might be able to find similar towels... but Cobra brand is Autogeek brand so you won't find it elsewhere

Also, be aware that while those do make great wax removal towels, they DO leak their indigo color, at least for the first 4-5 washes. It's not a big deal, but just so that you know why all your other towels suddenly take on a blue tone... its not you :D

I have not tried any of the towels from eShine.ca, but I've bought other products from them and always had excellent service from them (fast shipping to the US). Their Tornado buffing towels might be nice and they offer a qty discount. They're also in Canada, so maybe shipping might be more reasonable for you??? I realize these aren't AG Cobras, but maybe they'll work out great for you if you're in a pinch.
