Getting creative...

Ok so I'm one of those people who live in the city so I don't have a garage or much of a way to wash the car myself effectively.

There is a hand car wash place near by where they spend 1/2 hour washing your car. At first I thought this place was great, 30 min on your car and only $15. Long story short, I got the car back from the body shop (after an accident) and I know that the paint on the hood, bumper, and front quarters was new and flat.

After 1 wash at this place, I saw swirls. Now, I'm pretty sure the swirls are from their wash mitts that are used over and over on different cars. I asked the boss if it would be ok if I brought my own MF towels for his workers to use, and he said no problem. I got a bunch of cheap MF's from Costco.

Do you think that will solve my swirling problem? I guess I would give them 2 MF's to wash with and 2 to dry with. I have no idea what kind of soap they use.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

how about you go to a coin wash place and take your own bucket/mitt/soap ....go early or late so that you take your time

or depending on where you live..can you carry a bucket of water and a 2-3 watering cans full of water to your car?? ive done that before and done a ok job

Just got my QEW in the mail the other day...

I also got some MF towels and a sheepskin wash mitt from PakShak in the mail.

I guess I just need some buckets...

Thanks!

grocery stores will usually have buckets in the back if you ask for them they will give you them.....just be sure to degrease and wash em ;)

Swirls are created more often from grit, not the wash mitt / towels. It doesn't matter if you hand those guys a $10 MF, they can still swirl your car as easily as with a dirty coarse towel.

QEW is your best solution. Add some QD to the mix as well, to give it some extra lubricity and add a bit of extra slickness to the paint afterward.

I did my first wash with QEW...went pretty well I think.

My brand new sheepskin wash mitt from PakShak is soiled tho. And I used PakShak's light blue waffle weave microfiber towels to dry.

Is it ok to toss the sheepskin mitt into the dryer?

Should I wash the sheepskin mitt? If yes, how?

Thanks everyone!

Dont wash it in the machine, and let the flames begin, but thats not the "appropriate" way to wash a sheepskin washmit. The additional agitation, even on "gentle" is totally unecessary and does little to extend the life of the mit.

A little warm water, gentle soap, and "hand" agitiation for a moment will suffice, rinse clear.......Hang dry. Im almost (Although I cant speak for him) certain Ranney will agree.........

Patrick, Can you sugguest a gentle soap? I know that dawn would be out as you told me not to use it on your pads. Would APC cut 1-4 work or is that too strong?

I usually just clean it on the spot. When I am finished washing if there is any "spotting" I hit it with some APC and rub in, dunk it in the rinse bucket a few times, lay it on the grit guard and spray it clean.

Patrick I do not use the sheepskin at the moment but I do use woolite on my chenille pads and wash mitts. would that be a good option for the sheepskin as well?

See, that works also! Just make sure your using diluted APC. Of course the mit is usually wet anyway, so you may be ok depending on the APC's strength....

To me, pad/mit cleaning is like polishing, always start a little on the conservative side.

Forgive me, but what's APC?

And also, don't put it in the dryer?
