This is a RARE 1993 black GMC Typhoon that I detailed about 5 months ago that only had 30,000 miles on it. This was a return customer of mine, and he wanted this rare gem to be as fresh as possible.



So this detail was a little different then usual, I had no convenient water source near by, so I had to pre-fill all of my buckets and sprayers for the wash process.



That being the case, I thought that it would make a perfect time to use some ONR (Optimum No Rinse Wash). ONR is a revolutionary product for the car cleaning enthusiast, It enables you to take one single 5 gal bucket and 2-3 gallons of water and wash your entire vehicle with only a few drops of water on the ground. with out any rinsing- hence the *No Rinse Wash*



I was a bit skeptical about this product at first but I have grown to love it! it can really save a lot of time and water.



ONR is designed to encapsulate the dirt particles to prevent them from scratching the surface. even Without a pre-rinse. And it slightly adds a protection to the paint as well. *it does work,as long as there isn't mounds of mud on the surface, then you would need a pre-rinse*



Lets get this going and we will discuss more as we go. Here is what I had to work with.

I Began by presoaking the wheels with Chemical guys Diablo wheel Gel letting it dwell for a bit. I'm not to big of a fan of this product, and how it doesn't break up the brake dust like P21s does, but it's ok.

Here are some of the tools and products that were used in the wash process

I began by pre-soaking the engine compartment with APC and then agitating it with Various brushes to brake up all the grime.

When you do the engine degrease process out in the sun you have to make sure you keep the fenders and cowl panel and all surrounding panels wet, if not the degreaser will dry up and damage the paint surface.

Then I used a pump sprayer to rinse (sometimes you just gotta work with what you got, and in this case, no water close by)

Then It was treated with 303 protectant

Now back to the wheels, I sprayed down the tires with some APC and the agitated them to get all that nasty brown off of them.

Once they were finished I used the pump sprayer to rinse

Next is the ONR wash which is kind of hard to take pics of, only because it is simply to wash on wipe off.



I added 2 cap fulls to about 2.5 gallons of water.

I used a Grout sponge which does a great job of picking up the dirty and keeping it from marring the paint. Soak the mitt/Sponge in the solution and give it a slight squeeze and then just wipe the surface with light pressure(just let the mitt do the work, do grind the dirt into the paint or it will scratch or marr)

Then wipe with a damp Microfiber towel and wala! that area is clean.

The car was brought in and clayed, taped up and I took paint measurements to make sure the paint was safe for correction.

all of the lower part of the typhoon was a satan black so I had to make sure I didn't get any compound or wax on that area.

I'm glad I took measurement, the paint was all over the place on the meter, some 5's a few 8's and even a few 2's :scared:

So now that I know what I am working with, I first removed the roof rack, that way, I can get to the whole roof.

For the correction I used my FLEX 3401 hydrotech cyan with M105 and Hydrotech Tangerine pad with M205.

I have no idea? there were a lot of panels that were repainted, and some that were real thin.
 
90's Era GM paint, its a surprise everywhere you measure. So you did a correction 5 months ago? Looks like your customer was hard at work making swirls. Good job, truck looks great.
 
i love typhonns and syclones...i was so close to buying a typhoon a bout a year ago, bet it eneded up have a section of the bodykit missing so i passed it up.

why do paint readings on a car you're not sanding? Was it b/c it's single stage?



when performing a paint correction you are removing material in order to remove the swirls. a paint reading will tell u how much u have to play with and with the readings he got, im sure he was glad he took the readings.
 
Typhoons, Syclones, and Buick Grand Nationals are sweet. Always wanted to build an early S-10 with a Grand Nat. motor. But these are AWD. Looks great! I still have my 83 with a 350 stored away in a barn, with original red s.s. paint.
