Gave my bro/sis in law a gift... (lotsa pics)

My wife and I visited them over the holiday (we didn't have work from the 31st to Nov 3) last week.



They're leaving for Australia this December and I thought I'll detail their 2.5yr old CRV as a gift to them... Didn't have time to do the tires and the interior, maybe next week.



The car has never been detailed beyond the usual wash and dry. (Their water is really hard.... it's so hard to keep it streakless unless you dry as you rinse).



The car wasn't that bad, typical drive-and-forget kind of owners but they do wash often and their area (province) isn't really polluted like in Manila so car stays pretty clean. Figure it to be like most US suburbs where once a week wash would suffice (unlike us in the city where we need to wash every other day).



The paint was really rough and quite stale in terms of the red paint. A lot of thick water stains and THICK tar... Especially on the wheels.

I used up a whole new bottle of tar remover for this car... It also used up a whole bar of clay, it literally sounded like sandpaper when we were claying. I wanna do the engine as well, it's really filthy down there...

I wanted to use IHG + 26 on the car but knowing how bad the water is in their area and how little time he has for washing and drying (properly), I opted to use the cheap Simoniz sealant for longevity (it lasts for over a month even in Manila storm season). They're selling the car before Xmas anyway, so I figure that it'll last through their last weeks of ownership.



I'll probably do the engine and glass within the month... :wavey
 
What is the plate or mirror looking thing hanging down from the top of the hatch? Just curious.
 
That mirror is basically a backup mirror. It lets ya look how far away you are from hitting the car behind you since parallel spaces are very popular, espeically in big cities.
 
Exactly right! That's a backup mirror for foreign or non-American CRVs only. They are often sought after items on the CRV forums in which there were talks of arranging a cross-continent transaction with the foreign dealers by one of those members.

It's a $155 contraption similar to those found on post office trucks or city buses, in Honolulu, anyway.



I took the liberty of browsing through some of pages in the author's site. Wow, I can see rays of hope coming out of my '92 Acura! It is white and a very detail-friendly color.

it's funny how people are never contented with what they have, here in asia, people always try to make their car look euro or US version, in the US, they go for the JDM/Asia market look/accessories...

I guess this shows that surface prep is everything considering that I used a P250 (approx $4.00) grocery brand sealant on the car... Makes me wonder how it'll look like with #26 or LG...

Its a funny thing, that.... Especially in the import scene. Integra owners drools over the JDM front end (which I think makes the Integra look like an Accord) and then over in Japan they drool over our USDM front end. I'm happy with what I've got. Since the Integra was actually built over in Japan then that makes it pretty JDM, right? :D j/k
 
hey heres a thought: all the Americans with USDM cars who want JDM parts, and JDM owners who want USDM's, why not set up a parts exchange instead of having to go to aftermarket vendors who charge way more.... :) surprised there isnt something like this out there somewhere.

There is probably not enough profit in it. By the time you pay all the fees associated with sending something like that overseas, you would probably break about even on the deal. There are a couple online companies who import and export parts for the two markets. There aren't too many of them though. Usually guys who are really interested in doing these conversions find a way to get the parts. Its the 18 year olds who have seen Fast and the Furious one too many times who get ripped off most often on "real" JDM stuff.
