Gauging interest. Practice panels.

I was wondering if anyone out there would be willing to pay for some practice panels. I am a painting contractor and could provide something like 12" x 10" panels for people to test their skills.

I figured this size so that they could fit into a small fedex box and ship nationwide for a shipping fee of less than $10.00 for up to 5 /8 panels. Not quite sure.

I would use some mild steel and prime with a single component auto/filler primer.

Then two coats of two part urethane or enamel base.

Then two coats of two component clear.

This should be fairly typical of an automotive finish.

Also I could do two coats of base then two coats of enamel in a different color. That way one would know what it would take to break through the clear. (the clear being represented by a different color paint for clarity.)

I could mil gauge the steel after primer, base, and clear and send along a graph of the paint film thickness of the various layers.

Why I am posting - I wonder what you guys would be willing to pay per panel. I would obviously have quantity discounts, and figured that I would paint all panels in jet black. That way, the swirls and orange peel would stand out the best.

Let me know if you guys are interested, and I may start making some of these.

Thanks,

Barrett

Yes, interesting idea but the panel size would be way too small for me and I can get suitablely larger panels with free swirls and scratches from a scrap yard for $20

the only difference being you would not know the depth of each layer of paint.

However, I see your point.

I would think that the panel would be more beneficial if it were the size of a large cookie sheet. (Meguiar's NXT Tech) I could see where this could be used for training/learning. Shoot me a PM with your contact info so that we can talk further about this.
