Gathering detailing supplies: Brushes!

Ok everyone -

I am trying to get together a decent detailing kit for the summertime. I am on a budget (who isn't) and am looking for brushes that I can get locally that will be good for detailing.

If anyone has a fav. brush, please post it here with what you use it for and where you got it.

Thanks!

K

I have all of wal-mart's brushes, tire, interior, carpet...they all work good. The carpet one has a xxxxty handle, i'd try to find a better carpet one. Good luck

Since this is in the car wash section...I'd recommend a 100% sheepskin wash mitt for the painted surfaces. Many online vendors and some local vendors sell high quality mitts.

As far as accessory brushes, yes, the Meguiar's line of new detailing brushes looks great. The OXO brushes are also high quality and peform well.

Yep, if you are looking to buy locally, the new line of Meguiar's Versa-Angle brushes and Gold Class accessories are very good, and reasonably priced. There are a few quality concerns and issues with some of them, so "read-up". :D

I will second the Megs brushes.

I only have the tire brush, but i dont know how i lived without it really. The construction on that brush seems to be pretty decent, and i dont clean it or anything, it pretty much just soaks in a bucket all the time, no loss of bristles yet...

I use it on my tires, but i am picking up a tire brush next time i see one. It isnt really aggressive enough for a good cleaning on the tires.

The megs brushes are great. Other than those I would test them on your hand in the store to make sure they're soft enough for your needs. A good tip is to get a couple of sizes of decent paintbrushes, you then cut the bristles down to various sizes to get different levels of stiffness. Eventually you'll wnat to get a slide-lock brush like the meguiars one, but if you have a gap in your brush lineup these can help temporarily fill that gap.

Here's something I just found -

Those puff brushes that are made with square strips of foam attached at the center to a handle are good for washing wheels.

I think they are for washing dishes, cups and stuff.
