Gas prices high -- but not high enough

"Connecticut is actually rolling back its state gas tax by 5 cents a gallon to throw a bone to voters. Oh boy -- 5 cents! Ridiculous!"

As a life long resident of the tax you to death state this makes me want to throw up.

I would rather keep the gas tax as is and get rid of the God awful car tax I pay each year...I don't know how people can afford to live here anymore. I think I need to move...
 
We should never need any new tax period.:mad:

Mis-management by both parties is sickening. What really gets to me is everytime they want to squeeze more money out of the taxpayer they go after property taxes and deprive schools (among other things), creating a burden for the schools that should not be there.

Here in Florida they pushed for the lottery which was suppose to support schools, funny thing is, the schools aren't any better off now then before the lottery came along.:hmmm:

I'm not saying there is a better form of government out there though. Any form of government is gonna be flawed simply because of lust for money and power which is human nature.
 
I agree...its unreal.

Here in Connecticut (not to harp on this state again) we have two of the largest casinos in the world about 10 miles from eachother...sitting in the somewhat southeastern portion of the state. They bring in the state roughly around $440 million a year in taxes...and yet we are scheduled to get an income tax hike here next year.

We had the same issue in AL, and the main argument against voting for the lottery was that little of the money went to the schools. People voted it down, but then you have everyone else saying that everyone that lives here and voted no is backwards, etc.

I'm not big into politics, but I feel like the two party system is a huge problem. Just personal opinion I suppose.
 
How are the school deprived? Don't we spend like $1,400 per kid that’s more then most other countries, but yet they score better in testing. Just like the government giving them more $$ ain't the answer.
 
OK, I'll bite on the OP's comment...

How are the "libs" responsible for the current gas prices? Are they:

a) responsible for the oil company's seeming reluctance to improving their infrastructure in spite of record profits?
b) repsonsible for the oil company's blatant greed?
c) maybe its just the libs who are driving all of the SUVs and other vehicle which consume gasoline at a fast rate

I'm definitely not for increasing any form of taxation as historically once the taxes are in place and their stated goal has been reached they seem to remain in place rather than rolled back. That is true for either party.

When it comes to fiscal conservatism, the current adminstration and the previously Republican ruled legislature could hardly be labeled as thrifty.
 
Not my point, my point is only a lib would want to increase taxes to force people to buy leaf licker cars. I would rather give my $$ to the oil companies then our government to give to people standing in a welfare line.

You should come to Arkansas to see the "education" system the have here. It is rediculous. The gas companies are going to do what they are legally able to do. It all has to do with supply and demand. If everyone is that concerned, they need to write their state representative. Do I like high gas prices? Not at all, but I drive a car that is very thirsty and requires at least 91 octane. On top of that, my driving habits aren't the type that conserve fuel. I don't feel that I really have a right to complain if I'm not doing everything I can to solve the problem.

:) I think you've missed on both your points. If you think that only liberal (I'll assume you mean Democrats) are the only party imposing taxes and spending taxes, you should really re-think that. From my perspective, spending our country deeper into debt without a plan for repayment is just as reckless as tax and spend. The U.S. National debt currently sits at almost $9 trillion dollars.

Secondly, specifically regarding where your tax dollars go, I believe you will find that this administration has tossed far more of your tax dollars to entities that other than what is traditionally considered welfare groups or individuals.
