Garden Hose

I`ve used the Sears Black Rubber hoses for years. They are heavy duty, stay flexible in cold weather and have a lifetime warranty. While they don`t kink, I`ve always found them to tangle while moving them around the car etc and after a few months they start to get your hands black when using them. I picked up the Shop Zero from Lowes when they were on sale. My wife uses the X Hose Pro for gardening--the Shop Zero is similar, but much more heavy duty and has a 5 year warranty. It doesn`t shrink like the X Hose, but just goes limp. Very, very light and you could just throw it in a 5 gallon bucket when you`re finished if you wanted to. Happened to notice it has full flow fittings at either end so really keeps the pressure up. Doesn`t kink or tangle and hangs in a snap on the garage wall hanger. So far very impressed -- one less hassle to deal with!!

Shop Zero-G 5/8-in x 50-ft Premium-Duty Kink Free Garden Hose at Lowes.com

Will be interesting to see how long these lasts.

Picked up another hose. We got these in stock at my pharmacy - so I couldn`t resist.

It`s on TV - so it has to be good.

The Driver did a review on one a couple years ago. I liked the idea but hated that it lost pressure so fast. Also he said after a month it started leaking as well.

Lolz. X Hose is a complete piece of garbage. Went out to water the lawn (first use) and it leaked. Don`t buy it. Will check out the one posted above from Lowes.

My Sears ones kept failing so frequently that the warranty wasn`t worth the continued hassle of taking them back. I had better luck with Flexogen even though I`m now using Griot`s and Swan (neither of which I`d recommend).

Hmmm..thinking about it now, I might go back to the Sears (black) ones after I`ve repaired/replaced the ones from GG enough to get frustrated.

Gee, guess I`m really hard on hoses somehow!

I see that Lowe`s one is a 5/8", wonder if they have them in 3/4" (I only use a 5/8" on my CRS).

Reviving this - I was just doing research online for a new hose and realized I should be searching Autopia instead lol. I need a new hose because my Home Depot hose which is supposed to be no kink constantly kinks and its always frustrating when doing a detail.

Swanicyouth - I was looking at the flexogen but based on your review I think I will be going with the Stanley.

I`ve got a couple of the Flexogen hoses. I`ve got a brand new one in the basement. They`re good quality hoses with real nice fittings.

I`ve been running the black rubber Sears hose for the past year or so. It does remain flexible in all temps and does kink once in a while. The hose is a bit odd...it`s kind of got a mind of its own. It has a tendency to unwind itself and wrap around things and grab them. It grabbed the handle on the lawn mower once and I ended up pulling the lawn mower into the hood of the car. I was NOT happy about that. It`s somewhat heavy too. But the durability will be good, I can tell.

These are good hoses:

I`ve had my 50` Zero-G for close to a year now and absolutely love it. Its hands down the best hose I`ve ever used.

My brother returned his flexzilla to get one he liked it so much.

When I bought mine I think they only had 50` now they have 25`, 50`, and 100`.

The Stanley is still legit and still the best hose I`ve ever used. It`s not as stiff as the black real rubber hoses, in fact it`s very flexible. I`ve never used a Flexzilla - but have handled one. The Stanley seems similar but at a better price.

Only thing I don`t like about the Stanley is the light yellow color. It gets dirty easy, so I end up wiping it down with APC when I role it up.

Regarding the hose color, I use black hoses for the water and reddish ones for foamguns/pressure washer/undercar wand.

Tom P- Yikes, sorry to hear about the lawn mower vs. hood incident!

IME all self-coiling hoses (even ones that aren`t billed as such) have minds of their own. I only coil the hoses on the north side of the wash bay, just lay the south side ones out more or less length-wise so they`re out of the way but easy to deploy.

I`m done w "box store" hoses. I just bought a hose reel from Eley (Should be at the house today!!) and before Spring I`m picking up one of their hoses as well.

https://www.eleyhosereels.com/collections/garden-hoses/products/5-8-polyurethane-garden-hose

- 10-YEAR no-rust, no-leak, no-break factory guarantee
- Full-Flow, Crush-Proof Fittings
- Lightweight: Up to 2 times lighter and yet 3 times stronger than most leading garden hoses.

One less thing I have to deal with...

Eh, this thread just got sorta timely for Yours Truly as I have to re-replace a fitting on the ancient hose from Griot`s that I inherited. That thing`s been repaired a few times now, gets a couple inches shorter each time but that`s OK....so far.

Hey Dschribs,
I need to buy a garden hose for my house. How is your Eley hose? Is it the "best" hose in its class?

Absolutely!!! Money well spent. I wouldn`t buy any other hose after owning an Eley. Has never kinked on me once. I love it.

The reel is awesome as well. Most likely the last hose reel I will ever have to buy.

I had a green craftsman hose, way to stiff, pain to hang it up on hook I have setup in garage, always had to fight to twist/unwind it to coil up on hook, doesn`t want to lay flat on ground. Got flexzilla, so far so good, very pleased so far.
