Garage Tile

After deciding that I wanted a Race Deck like garage floor, I started investigating the alternatives. I found Race Deck for $4.95 per square foot tile at http://www.autosportcatalog.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=1398&sc=7542

or $3.75 per tile at

http://www.garagestyle.com/category/1/

I also found a Craftsman Tile Set at Sears which appears to be very similar at

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/prod...vertical=TOOL&pid=00963019000&tab=des#tablink

for $54.99 for a pack of 20 ($2.75 each). This seems to be a pretty large price range. Is there something I'm missing here? Has anyone compared the Race Deck with the Craftsman? Has anyone gone with the Craftsman?

TIA

Wow, that is a really good price for those tiles from Sears. Thanks for the link. I'd been looking for a cheaper alternative (but still good quality) to the typically priced $4-5 each tiles most places carry. I don't think I'll be able to do my whole floor at this time since I have over 1000 square feet to cover in my garage, but I might get enough tiles to do a section for one or two cars and see how it is.

Well, I just ordered enough of the tiles from Sears to do a 16' x 7' section in my garage, complete with corners and edge pieces. I'm having it shipped to a local Sears store to eliminate shipping cost, and should have the tiles in hand sometime next week. I'll post back when I receive them and get them installed as to my impressions of them. If all goes well, I'll probably order an additional 20 tiles every month to slowly complete my garage. At that rate I should have the entire floor covered sometime in 2008

I have seen racedeck tiles for 2.99 Sq ft. Not from an on-line vendor but at major carshows like Corvettes at Carlise, etc. I have also seen group purchases on the Corvetteforum where the tiles were 2.75 a piece.

Assuming that one could find the Racedeck tiles for the same price as the Sears tiles, then the question becomes what are the advantages/disadvantages of each. Are the Racedeck better than the Sears? If they are, how are they better? Just to throw another option into the considerations, I also saw some Gladiator tiles at Sears but didn't see a price. Neither could I find a price on their website. Anyone know about them? If I remember correctly, the Gladiator brand had the diamond shape that the Racedeck has. The Sears had a different pattern.

It would be really hard to compare the quality and fit and finish of the different tile systems without actually handling and snapping together some of each kind. The Sears Craftsman tiles are the only ones I've handled, but they fasten together like most of the other systems I've seen, the only difference I can see (from pics) is the pattern on the tiles, which seems to be unique to the Sears tiles, as well as the Sears tiles are only available in one color.

I got my tiles from Sears last week, and finally had some time this afternoon so I snapped together enough pieces to fit under one of our cars, it turned out to be a 17' x 7' section of tiles. It took me an hour to do 119 tiles, plus end pieces and corners, and I was taking my time. I haven't seen any other brands of tiles first hand, so I can't compare the quality (my guess is that Racedeck or another tile company makes these for Sears) vs other popular tile systems. I would like to have choices in color, but the platinum color is nice, and for almost half the price of the others, I'm not complaining.

If anyone orders these, there is one thing to note, the end tiles are advertised as 10 to a box. There are actually ten pair in each box, ten male and ten female pieces, so I had twice as many as I needed. Since I'm planning on expanding the section I have now though, it will work out great, and the end pieces are half the price of what I thought they would be. I also noticed that the tiles are on sale at Sears this week, for $49.49 per 20 tiles instead of $54.99. That's less than $2.50 per tile now.

I'll try to post some pics later in the week of the tiles in my garage.

So there are 20 in each box (12x12)! Wow Bet that was a NICE thing to find out!

Thanks for the heads up on the sears tile.

Ordered 6 boxes last night plus the sides and corners. Will be shipped to the store up the road from my house so I didn't even have to pay shipping.

Just installed last weekend two new electric outlets, 5.5 ft of upper cabinets, 4ft of countertop and cabinets underneath. Need to add a coat of paint and my compressor hose and I should be done.

All this in a 1 car garage...wil I have room for the car??? :p
