Garage Setup

What kind of setup do you guys have in your garages?

My place is a modern house with attached 2 car garage (but only room for 1 car, workbench, Ducati, riding mower, tools, etc.) which isn't too hard to warm when needed.

It was 29 this morning in Augusta, but 50 in the garage, it's not heated but well insulated, standard garage electric door.

Specifically, what kind of lights and/or heat do you use?

I have 2 incandescent bulbs in the ceiling. And am going to replace them with the 150 watt garage bulbs for a little increased brightness. But I couldn't, because I don't have Billy Mayes "grabber" to reach them, my short step stool isn't tall enough, neither is my workmate table. I'll just have to use the Z-71 when Tammy gets back with it!

I usually use my three 500 watt halogen work lights when detailing the car, but they are a pain in the rear because of placement, but very convenient to carry around the car to check for residue removal, etc.

I've got 3 4-foot dual flourescent tube fixtures I can hang (from my old motorcycle garage), but I'm not sure these will be bright enough.

What is state of the art in your opinion of what type of lighting one should use for detailing.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but there is an entire section (sub-forum) of the site related to the garage. Within it you will find a wealth of information regarding what you have asked. Please go to that forum and read up, do some searches, etc. as these topics ALL have been discussed in depth prior to now. :up

Good question Edwin. I'm doing the same to my garage too.....

There's a fella here from St. Louis I think and he has a very nice 3 car garage then of course Redcarfella has a nice one too. He may even have a bed in there!

Good Luck......

Edwin, there is a rule here which states that any member here who owns an Italian motorcycle must provide details in there sig as well as plenty of pictures for us to drool over.

I don't make the rules.;)
