funeral homes

I read a lot about car dealers as customers on this forum . But i havent read anything about funeral homes as customers. Funeral homes have an image to maintain. Their cars must be spotless inside and out.

Does anyone have them as a client?

Which services are perfomed and at what price?

I have thought to do this.  There are a lot of people who wouldn't be comfortable with it.  Realistically I think they are a lot like limo companies.  They either handle it in house with a minimum wage employee or they don't see the value and take it to the "Tunnel 'O Horrors".

my friend is a funeral director...they take their cars/hursts, etc to the local drive through wash for $5 and then someone wipes them down with towels...said the company wont pay more than $15 for the hurst...he tried to get me to get someone to work for me and do it, but I passed as its not worth the headache.  I told him, $50 per and Im all for it, but that's not ever going to happen

I have 3 funeral home accounts that I detail for. I have 3 because of the first one I was able to get into. they are great accounts to have. But do not expect to be detailing them every week or even every month. I detail for one of the funeral homes every 3 months and do their entire fleet. Exterior wash, decon, and wax, and interior detail with no carpet shampooing unless it needs it. Another one has me in 3 times a year and the other I do maybe once sometimes twice a year.

They were taking the fleet to the local tunnel wash every week until I educated them on the damage they are doing. I was able to upsell them to a 1 step polish and since then they maintain them weekly with washes etc.

I have also started converting them to Opti-coat. So, far only 1 vehicle was opti-coated as a test (new Buick enclave). And the rest will fall in line.

Funeral homes are great because they know everyone in town and they are tight knit community. All the local funeral homes work with one another and if you impress one of them you are more than likely to get more work out of it. Some of them may only bring in you in twice a year for a spruce up and other may want you more often. All depends upon the funeral director.

Pricing varies depending upon your location and what they are use to paying. My funeral homes don't mind paying a little extra for me as they know they are getting quality detailing. No fluff and buffs. But I also am not always polishing them. I charge 25% off my normal pricing for them. And they are happy with that. They may have the money to spend however don't let that make you think they will pay for full retail.

Also, if your able to be mobile for them they love that! Most have a garage that they keep the vehicles in so they can provide that area for you. It makes it easier for them as they don't have to run each vehicle to you over the course of the day.

It's a great revenue stream even if it's not as fequent as say a dealership. But much easier to deal with and most of them are great people and will get behind you fully (as long as you prove yourself as a quality detailer and not trying to screw them).

Great info SeaJays,

Your attitude is great on several levels. First the education of damage

second that the others will fall in line for Opti Coat. I believe that you are

right and that this is the best service for them. This can save them hundreds.

I am confused about not offering polishing to them? I would imagine that this

would be best done before Opti Coat. Did they just not want to pay for it?

I have only Opti-Coated the Enclave and it was polished prior to application. It was a brand new purchase for them. They get new vehicles every couple years, so as they swamp the vehicles out they will get the new ones coated in hopes of keeping them longer. FYI - I always polish prior to application of Opti-coat.

Their cars are so beat up from the tunnel washes that they were going to that they wont' spend the money with me to do anything more than a 1 step. Which at this point they are due for new vehicles this year. So, they won't spend the extra money this year until they get the new cars to get them polished.

Meanwhile another funeral home account I have always has me do a 1 step polish on them each time I see them (3 times a year). It will vary from account to account on what they want/are willing to pay for.

I would think a funeral would be very interested in a paint coating. Good protection for 2 yrs and this cuts cost for them in the long run. I will be approaching funeral homes in my area about paint coating.

Compared to the local detailers that were doing their vehicles even with the discount I'm still more expensive. And they give me regular work, plus a ton of referrals. I don't loose in any way by offering them a small discount.
