Swirls?!?! NNOOOOOOO!!!!!
So I went to a World of Wheels show a while ago. I was eagerly anticipating seeing many new, amazing products that had to be seen to be believed (not that I'd be needing any this year, mind you. Just for to see.). When I got there, there was AutoMagic and Dri Wash N Guard. Man. I was bummed. But, I figger'd since I was there, and I had seen the cars, I may as well see how great of showmen these guys were. I like a good show, especially when they're like late night tv!
AutoMagic. Had a bunch of 16 oz. bottles all nicely lined up, a couple of posters hanging behind, but nothing to "test" anything on. So I ask the guy "How much for this polish?" (I already knew it could be had for $5.00 US or $11.00 through the local guy).
"$25.00."
"........." (dramatic, dumfounded stare, no reply by me)
"Hey...you can't buy this stuff in ANY store."
"Yeah, but I can get it for $11.00 through the local distributor."
"........." (dramatic, dumfounded "how did you find out?" look on his face, and pause)
"Well, I don't know. I was just told to sell it for these prices. Do you want it or not?"
"!!!" (look of shock and surprise from me. I didn't think I looked that stoopid)
"No, thanks anyway." I says, and I'm off to the next guy.
Dri Wash n Guard:
They have a bugandy '87 Monte Carlo (fresh "$99.00" paint job) for their demos, with some dust spread around on it. And it's for sale, even!
So I go up to one of the guys (3 middle-aged/ almost retired people selling it there)
"So, you interested in this fine product? You don't need water. I use this when I detail cars. I do detailing as a side job." says the almost retired loking guy.
"I guess. So, does it ecapsulate the dirt, or just lubricate really well?"
"Well, it just cleans it. I'll tell someone that I'll clean, polish and protect their car for only $50.00. They don't need to know that I'm just spraying it down and wiping it. (Holy Smokes!! And this makes me want to trust you how?) If the car's more dirty than this (light dust) I'll spray it with the hose, 'cause it's just too expensive to use otherwise. But there's a scratch remover, vinyl cleaner/protectant, fabric cleaner and metal polish too, so you can do the whole car."
"Can I see it work?"
"Sure" (He grabs a mf and heads to the hood.)
"See, you use this 3 times and the swirls are gone!"
"Filled?"
"Nope. Just gone."
"But the bottle says non-abrasive. Does that mean it chemically rounds the edges?"
"I don't really know. They just go away."
"But the car is really badly swirled"
"It's the lighting. Here, I'll show you."
"Still swirled"
"Well, that's only 2 times " (drops the cloth, picks it up and keeps wiping)
"Still there"
"Well, You're seeing scratches, not swirls."
"Can you show me the scratch remover working, then?"
"Umm, yeah. I guess." (goes to the back and gets a bottle.)
"It's hazing the paint, and the "scratches" are still there"
"Well, umm, this is an old bottle. I'll get a new one." (comes back with a different bottle, drops cloth, picks it up again)
"Still hazed" (grabs the DWG and wipes it)
"still hazed"
"It's the lighting. Once you get it outside, you wouldn't see it. So, you interested? You can get an aerosol bottle for $27 or a quart of liquid and a pump sprayer (salad oil sprayer) for $40.00. You don't get as much in the aerosol because it needs stuff to, uh, spray it."
"A propellant?"
"Yeah, propellant."
I look at the table. They have some cotton face cloths that are so thin you can see through them, and some mf (12" square). "Those cloths are $1.50 each."
"The mf?"
"No. The white ones. The mf are $5.00 each. Well, here's my card. If you decide to get some, give me a call. I also do detailing, if you need your car done."
This really happened!! I'm not making this up!!:lmfao
