FS: Canon Digital Rebel w/goodies (300D)

I've got an A610 myself, which I rather like. This Rebel is definitely a good camera.

My main setup is, I would say, a "No Joke" setup :woot2:

(taken with the A610, even!) :)

No joke is right, I see a lot of "L" glass! :cooleek:

Not to get too far OT but...which version is the 70-200mm? F/2.8 I'm guessing? Also is that the 100-400mm? I'm looking to pick up my first L glass for my telephoto needs, and have been considering the 70-200mm f/4 or 100-400mm IS, there also a couple similiar Sigmas in the price range. Any input on my decision would be greatly appreciated, your definately a respected photographer to me; you can even PM me if you want.

SpoiledMan: The Canon Digital Rebel XT is a great camera. If interested in getting it, you might want to consider the 28-135mm IS, I actually just put mine up for sale in the Trading Post forum.

Johnny, that does look like a nice lens. I don't know what all the numbers mean but I do know enough to know that it has a nice zoom range. Don't get me put out man.;) I'm working on just getting the camera first. :getdown

^^ the 28-135 is the lens I mentioned as my favorite "walking around" lens :)

John, the 70-200 is the 2.8 IS version. I absolutely love that lens. For a much more affordable option the f/4 version is a VERY fine lens and lot more manageable (this thing weighs a ton!). The one on the left is an older copy of the 300/4 I picked up used. Very sharp lens, great for autosports. :)

I've never been too fond of the 100-400, but I know there are some autosports photographers that make their living with that lens. If I need extra reach, I just slap the 1.4x teleconverter on my long lenses.

As far as the Sigmas, I know people who are very happy with them and have a bunch more cash in their pockets... I bought most all of my lenses when I was in a debt-happy mode. I've since scaled back and don't see anything else I would add, except maybe the 24-70/2.8 for model work. :)

Ya thats what I've been hearing about the f/4 version, the "poor man's L"..lol

The IS version is definately out of my price range, and I'm not sure if the extra stops are worth double the price with the f/2.8. This is only a hobby for me, and while I have the "Autopian" mindset of naturally wanting the best, I think I need to draw the line, before I'm really in debt. I really wanna try the lens out first on my body, but it's looking good and within my grasp (financially). Besides I can always pack a tripod for those light light situations. From what I've gathered on FM and other sites people either love or hate the 100-400mm, I don't think I wanna take that chance with a price tag of over $1k :spit:

John Ah! A fellow FM'er! :D How ya doin? Who are you over there? I'm not too active anymore, but I hang out in the People section.

I'd say that the 70-200/4 is a great lens and you'd probably be very happy with it. If you're shooting an XT or 20D, you can afford the higher ISOs since the noise is so low so the $$ and weight savings over the 2.8 (even the non-IS) would also be good.

Thomas Well, the total "value" of this package is hard to estimate, since it's used and whatnot. I know Calumet Photo sells the body alone (no lens or accessories, just body) for $639 for this model, which has been discontinued for a while.

The newer version is the Rebel XT, which SpoiledMan referred to that has a $100 mail-in rebate going for it now ($699 after rebate). You'd still need a memory card at the very least ($50-100 depending on the size of the card).

Man, my hands smell good. Concours :D

I'm a very new member over at FM (10 posts..lol), but my name there is JaCkaL829. I've been reading the reviews for some time, but just recently decided to join since I'm trying to sell my 28-135mm, and I figured why not. Unfortunately now I have to many forums to keep up with :doh

The 70-200mm f/4 is looking good the more and more I read about it. I'm most likely going to get it, and if I feel I need more reach get the 1.4x converter. The other high zooms are just out of my price range.

JohnnyDaJackal, I agree with you about the EF70-200mm f/4L USM. It's a very affordable L telephoto lens especially for hobbyist and beginners. The EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM of course is a great lens but it is way too expensive and only justifiable for commercial photographers. I'm trying to save some money to go for that f/4 version next year meanwhile do more research and readings about it. Please share us about your experience if you ever get that lens. :getdown
