Well, here's what I've learned about this process:
First, the paint on this vehicle was very soft and kept marring with the compounds and pads I tried. Whether it was foam or wool didn't matter. Whether I used 3M, Meguiar's or System One for compounding didn't matter....just kept frustrating me.
So, I had a bottle of 3M SRC and tried it with wool and it worked. I suspect it's because of the low aggressiveness of the product that was producing the results.
Next, instead of adding more product to a polish or finish pad, I just spritzed a polish pad with Detail Spray and worked that. I did that at first to check my work and found that it also finishes out the paint better. I did an alcohol wipe down and found no hidden scratches, so the process works.
Now, the frustrating part is SRC is supposed to work on the new clear coats that are scratch resistant. Well, I am working on an 06 Black 530i and tried this "new" process. It didn't work. The paint would not correct with this method. I ended up going back to 3M Extra Cut with wool and 3M Perfect-It 3000 with foam to get the results.
So, yes, the SRC works well for certain vehicles. Namely, very soft paints that mar under normal compound tactics.
