Front bumper replacement?

Hey everyone, I'm in the midst of replacing my rear bumper, but I have a small problem. There is a small sticker on the bumper emblazoned with the VIN number from the car. My question is, is there any way to transfer this to the new bumper without damaging the sticker? The sticker seems very thin, so I'm hesitant to do anything right now - but I'd like to keep the everything the way it is stock in case I decide to sell it some day.

Thanks for the help.

You could try using a heat gun to remove the sticker then tape it onto the inside of the new bumper. Or perhaps, just use a sharpie and write it on the inside of the bumper. I wouldn't worry to much about this effecting your resale value IMPO

Isn't one of the purposes of such stickers to let people know if a panel has been replaced? As in, isn't swapping the sticker a :nono

But anyhow, Welcome to Autopia, resdm50! Sorry if I came across all negative to a newcomer :o

I thought the purpose was if the car was stolen and stripped the police would have a better chance of catching the scumbag. I guess I should re-evaluate my thought process :nervous:

Well, yeah, that too. All sorta adds up to not messing around trying to transfer the numbers, huh?

No doubt ^

I would just replace the bumper cover and forget about it. I have bought and sold dozens of cars over the years and have never had anyone look for a vin # on a bumper

Very true, but I'm replacing the bumper with someone else's stock, factory painted bumper. So I guess, my main issue is that the bumper will have a different vin than the rest of the car. Would it be possible to take swap tme using a hear gun? Or would the sticker lose too much adhesion in the process?

Thanks again

Flash Gordon- Heh heh, when *I* buy a vehicle, I do check such stuff ;)

resdm50- As noted, it's questionable whether anybody will ever know/care. But I wouldn't mess around swapping the sticker (which almost certainly won't swap over well anyhow...they think about such stuff when they come up with this sort of thing ;) ) as it could be a *REAL* red-flag to somebody like me, much moreso than just being honest and saying "yeah, I replaced the bumper cover".

A replaced bumpercover simply isn't a big deal, even for originality-freaks like me. Note that the bumpercovers are often not painted at the same factory as the rest of the vehicle anyhow, and the paint on them virtually never matches the rest of the vehicle anyhow. Heh heh, the replacement might even match *better* than the original did! As long as it's obvious that it's just the cover that got replaced (not like it had some big wreck), it's a non-issue IMO, and I'm about as fussy a guy as you can imagine when I'm buying a used car.

Yes you will lose the adhesive backing when you remove the sticker. I suppose you could just keep the original stick in your glove compartment or with all the other vital info. IMO I beleive your worrying about something that isn't nescecary. Unless your on parole, and there is any chance of your freinds bumper being hot :nervous:
