From Pink to Cherry! 1964 Nova SS Exterior Paint Correction

I was working on the interior of my truck today. Vacumed it out, cleaned the windows, and then was wiping down the dash and all.

Not sure what you call it, but when you open the door, the bottom part of the truck? The part on floor of the truck in the doorway, next to the seat? The plastic strip. (ermm probably don't know what I'm talking about. I really wish I knew what you called it) Well on both the driver and passenger side it is dirty as heck. I've tried water and soap and it isn't cleaning it.

Also, on the kick panels there are black marks from people's feet and I couldn't get those off either.

I tried using a brush to scrub them as well. It helped a little with the black marks but not a lot.. Is there anything else I can use to clean them?

If this is just plain plastic try getting some IPA (Isopropyl, Rubbing Alcohol) and rub it in with a cloth or cheap MF towel. I have had some success with this but wouldn't recommend making a habit of using it on vinyl or rubber as it dries some things out . . . otherwise there are trim cleaners like Stoner's XENIT, you could also try some EF-HI or leather cleaner . . .

I believe that area is known as the rocker panels where the floor pan is joined to an "A" class surface.

I've had good success with simple green, then apply Mothers back to black.

Intel, I know exactly what piece you are talking about because I was out cleaning mine today also lolol. It was filthy and I was sick of looking at it. I got a sponge and some citrus based degreaser and it cleaned up perfect. I washed it down really well to make sure all the degreaser was off and followed it up with Mcguiars #40 Leather and Rubber Protectant and it looks great. :up

[/b]</blockquote>I'm not quite sure, but I believe that the rocker panels are an exterior surface only. I think those plastic strips are called kick plates. Could be wrong. I would clean with Meguiar's #39 and water. :xyxthumbs

I tried rubbing alcohol on it and that didn't clean it.

I'm going to go looking for something to clean it with. What does pepboys or autozone carry that'll clean it?

Pats300zx, did you use like an engine degreaser? I have some Eimann Fabrik Engine Degraser. It saies it is citrus based and it spells like oranges.

I'll take a pic of the piece that I'm talking about. I finally got my digital camera back :bounce

... for a cheap home remedy. I used them on my grey plastic kick panels on my VW and they worked great. They remove stains on VW headliners too!

You should be able to clean these safely with diluted Simple Green, Meguiars All purpose Cleaner, Charlies Soap or most water based degreasers diluted a bit.

I just noticed the dog leash. Tell me you don't let your fury companions in there! I have 2 golden retrievers that think my minivan is theirs. That's a great deal of extra work finding every loose piece of fur floating around. New car comin, leather int. sorry about their luck, I think they'll be walking along side :p

RedcarGuy knows - they ARE called Door Sills. Whether in a30's 40's and on to the present day model car, aluminum or plastic - they are door sills. There you learned something today whether you needed to or not. Gee the guy at the wrecking yard will be real impressed. MTS

I don't see the problem, they seem clean to me? ;)

I've had some success with WD40 or a product like Goo Gone with scuff marks. And perhaps lighterfluid might help. Some sorta solvent to get the skuffs out, unless the marks are caused by acutal damage to the material. As always, test in an inconspicious spot. HTH-Steve
