From PC to Rotary...

A lot of people find that they get some degree of hologramming with the rotary. Note that even Mike Phillips, who has *decades* of rotary experience, almost always finishes with the PC. Not saying that it always happens to everybody, but it's not a newbie-only phenomenon.



I've never noticed and detrimental effects from finishing my rotary work with the Cyclo :nixweiss

Murphy's Law! Coupe I just knew when I told you that I had no problems what soever with CT, something would happen! However I just passed it off as nothing!

I guess this is why we have "Murphy's Law"!!!!!!!!!:think2



Good luck. By the way, if you know someone with an old riding mower, farm tractor, or anything else like that, why not give it a go on those first, just a thought. I wouldn't want you and Mr. Murphy to become better friends;) .

Hey Accumulator, I think the cyclo finishes much better than a PC from what I have seen on this forum. As far as Mike Phillips finishing with a PC, that just dosn't make any sence to me. I've only been using the rotary for about 5 months now and I've never had any problems finishing to a perfectly clear finish with the rotary. You will only get holograms when you move the rotary too fast and or do not break the polish down properly. Again, the final result with a rotary is by far the clearest and produces the most gloss than any other machine. Just my .02.

Hahaha it got fixed. The sales manager said it wasnt me at all, something about the makita being linked to the hitachi somehow (computer mumbo-jumbo) so when you go to check out the data base grabs the hitachi instead lol He also said the hitachi has been sold out for quite some time and they havent been able to get more. Ive noticed that just about everyone is sold out on the hitachi.



I hope they ship quickly.

Yup, I've noticed the Hitachi not available, at least at the decently priced sites. I'm waiting for my Hitachi from CT. He said they are supposed to get some today. Crossing my fingers.
 
DSVWGLI- Yeah, I think it's a lot easier to find products that work flawlessly with the Cyclo than with the PC, though with the right product selection I've done OK with the PC too.



I don't doubt that all hologram/etc. issues are caused by user error of some kind, but you know how it goes, everybody's different. I *do* commend you on your rotary skills, such abilities aren't as common as you might think. Like a lot of skills, some people can do stuff, almost immediately, that other people can just *never* quite accomplish. As long as people find what works for them then it's all cool with me :D
 
Im ready to lay down the PC now, i "think" ive mastered it, i can remove the deepest of swirls, etches, scratches ect with it and not only that i can do it stupid fast. I dunno why, but i can.



But i know what the rotory can do and how fast it can do it, if i master this machine, i think im set.

Yes, you lose the constant force the rotary should be running at. It "bogs" in a way.

It's been my experience that 3/4 of learning anything is the "WANT" part. If you are truly hyped up on detailing and want to learn how to operate a rotary for the love of the profession, there is not a doubt in my mind you will be successful !

Keep me posted on everything you encounter if you have the time. I'm still going to get one, I just can't seem to make up my mind !

I'm definitely sure about getting a rotary now but I think I just need to figure out which one will be the best investment considering I don't actually have the funds for it now. I'm actually really excited about this future purchase. :dance

Thank you. I really like my Hitachi rotary. It was a little cheaper than the Makita with a better waranty and lighter at 6.2lb. All the ones mentioned here are good so just buy the one that fits you best. Good luck.
 
Today I polished 1 whole side of my father's Mercedes C220 CDi with the Metabo you show in 45 min with White CCS and Presta Ultra Cutting Creme Light. Then, Poli-Seal with Black LC PAD and Metabo and then diluted 1:3 Klasse SG with PC and Blue Propel v1. The results were superb !!

The finish achieved via rotary is clear, when you see it you can't live without it !!

Hi rydawg !!

The results were very good. I first tried removing swirls from a OEM Mercedes Clear Coat with a Green Propel v2. Ultra Cutting Creme Light couldn't remove them, but Ultra Cutting Creme did the trick and also leave a clear finish, very impressive for a compound :)

Then, one pass with Chroma 1500 polish with a finishing PAD and the finish was very good, maybe not as good as the finish with PO106FF and finishing PAD (always via rotary), but very similar.

Then I used Ultra Cutting Creme Light with other cars with a softer clear coat and the results were fantastic.

Very nice polishes. Better than RD3.01 and PO106FF? Maybe not, but very similar, and the Ultra Cutting Creme better than Power Gloss to me. All break down faster than the Menzerna ones. This is related to the type of abrassives used, I don't remember now what are the ones that break down faster, I think aluminium oxide, but I'm not sure now.

Maesal, that is one beautiful polishing job.



How bad were the swirls and were there any scratches. I am interested in the Presta Ultra Cutting Cream. How would you basically rate this polish? Is it a final, medium, or a compound type polish?

The swirls were just medium, not scratches. The clear coat was hard but not as hard as CeramiClear.

I rate this polish very good, it cuts very much and the finish in this hard clear coat was very good considering how much it cuts. Ii is a compound.
