Frequency of polishing

Hi. Im new here. I've read almost all pertinent topics and i would like to be enlightened re my dillema. Ever since i've become a "detail addict", I no longer want to see swirl marks on my ride. The problem is I've been polishing my car for every 5-6 weeks with 3M Machine glaze. Is this advisable? Or am I wearing my pain too thin. thanks.

Rule of thumb says polish only to remove defects. The average car should be polished 2 - 3 times per year. Personally, I polish as need be. My recommendation would be to remove the swirls as opposed to hiding them. Be sure you use a clean wash mitt and toweling to prevent new swirls. Be overly conscientious at first . . . you'll develop a routine and enjoy a swirl free shine. Good luck :xyxthumbs

I donâ€â„¢t know which 3M products your using but once youâ€â„¢ve polished out the surface imperfections all you should need is a Swirl Mark Remover

Comparative Abrasive Scale-

The abrasion or cutting ability of a polish on a 1-10 scale (least abrasive to most)

Manufacturer Reference Scale

Number 1-10

3M

Extra Cut Rubbing Compound (05936) 8/10

Micro Finishing Compound (39001) 7/10

Perfect-It II Fine Cut (39002) 6/10

Machine Polish (39003) 5/10

Perfect It Swirl Mark Remover (39009) 3/10

Imperial Machine Glaze (00591) 2/10

Are you using Perfect IT III Machine Glaze? If so every 5 to 6 weeks is way too much. MG is mild but it still removes paint and if you need to use it as often as you are you will run into problems down the road.

You should be working on your washing and drying process to prevent or minimize marring the paint. You shouldn't need to polish as often as you are. Fighting swirls and marring is an endless battle on most cars especially daily drivers but polishing with somthing as abrasive as Machine Glaze every 5 to 6 weeks is too much.

thanks for all the reply. will work on my washing and drying technique.

Im using 3M machine glaze for my swirl removal.
