Forget Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart's got game

Just got back from Walmart. Went straight to the automotive section and saw a few things. They now carry Stoner's IG, expensive though, they also have the new Meguiar's spray on Tire Shine stuff, I passed on it. Then I saw a yellow box with the word "Microfiber" on it, rushed over to it and it was empty. Hm...I wonder which Autopian cleared it out?? Haha..I'll try back again next week. :)

You know, I must have read the darn threads 10 times, but for the life of me I can't figure out where the NicSands originally got their bad rep from...

Long time ago many posters found them inferior to better quality towels. My personal preference with NicSands is that they are not very plush, feel harsh to the touch and lint terribly. It's not the towel you'd use on your paint. For the little difference in the price there are better choices out there.

Just like we have found out with some of the higher end MF's, quality is batch dependent. My first newbie MF purchase was some NicSands. After reading the bad reviews here, I bought some well respected NeatItems. The batch of NicSands I have were on par with the NeatItems and passed a rigourous CD test. But, the NicSands I have seen lately are not as nice. So there are (or were) some acceptable NicSands out there, just buyer beware.

I looked back in time on Autopia...Summer of 2001 is about as far as I could go. NicSands were getting a bad rap by most, but some members were not having probs. The most interesting thing I found in this search was that members were referring to "MT"s or "MT towels". Not MF, like we do today.

BTW, I washed these Concordia towels. The blue color bled a little, so now I have 15 blue and 10 pale, pale blue towels (They were white). I'm not worried. I'm lazy here. I'm just not going to separate my MF towels by color when laundering.

I'm not a Laundropian, by any means. ;)

I think the main problem I have with NicSand is...

IT SCRATCHED MY FINISH AND REAR WINDOW!!

No, it wasn't something I picked up because it wasn't a single scratch, it was a collection of them. On the finish, they scratch like a cat and swirl like a tornado.

Even if the Walmart towels are good quality, I am still sending my business to Pakshack. His quality is excellent (no tags either) and his customer support is unmatched. His prices are outstanding for Autopians. If all things were equal, I would still rather support a company like his rather than a big box retailer.

I agree, I will still use the better towels for other tasks but these towels for cleaning the stuff I normally wouldn't clean with MF's (engines, wheels, door jambs, etc.) these will work well because they're cheap enough I don't care too much if I make a mess of them.

I went to the Super Wal-Mart. Wow, was it super. I got 15 of those microfiber towels. They're definitly NOT NicSand, without a doubt. I think I'll find plenty of uses for them. At under a dollar each, they're priced competitavely with most terry towels.

Yeah, the Wal-Mart merchandise is expanding. They had some new Black Magic stuff including a wheel cleaner and a QD that smelled like cherry syrup. Something I noticed-- they are packaged in the exact same bottle, except at the bottom in small letters it either says "wheel cleaner" or something similiar to "quick detailer." Wouldn't want to get those mixed up and spray wheel cleaner all over your car!!

They also had some Rain-X car wax packaged in a nicely marketed box. Also I noticed another clay option in addition to Mother's. If I recall correctly it's Clay Magic, but I may be mistaken. Also there was a new tire foam from Meguiar's. All sorts of fun new stuff at the local Wally. It's definitly worth a peek!

I picked up a package of these MF's today...hehe...MF's  Any way, if some of you aren't masters of the obvious (like me) and think that your Wal-Mart doesn't carry these, don't look on the pegs where the CWB and chamois-in-a-tube are, look on the bottom shelf, in a box with the top and front side cut out. I didn't think my WM had them so I went about 10miles out of the way to get them. Then on the way home stopped at my WM (only 2 miles from the house) and they had them:rolleyes:   . My wife said I shouldn't have admitted that, but she loves me any way:D

And Chuckmotor, I saw that new Black Magic stuff too (I didn't want to abbreviate it with BM, God only knows what some people might think I was talking about:p ). I thought about trying the QD, but I'm really partial to ClearKote QD now, but man does that BM smell good...I mean Black Magic:scared

LOL, get your head out of the gutter DP-Jedi! :p

PS: I don't wanna know what "DP" is supposed to stand for...

Dangit I knew that was gonna come up sooner or later:rolleyes:

It's my initials:D It used to be my tag, but I changed it a few months ago - now I have exactly what you see in my avatar:up

Hmmm...DP, isn't that the tag of an old-school Quake TF clan, Digital Pain?

I guess I played that stuff too much a few years ago... :p

After reading this thread I went to my local Walmart and found a bunch of good stuff. Found the package of MF towels--and yes, they are on the bottom shelf. I came across two Nicsand towels for $5 and was getting disappointed when I looked down and saw the box. For a dollar each, I thought they are a pretty good deal. Will use them for window, wheels, door jams, etc.

In addition, I saw that they had Mother's clay bar system on sale for $11.99. I paid $20 at my autoparts store. Also got a nice chenelle wash pad (from Kiwi) and couple of terry cloth and foam polishing covers for my 6" craftsman random orbital polisher. Both were on sale for under $3. Again, I paid nearly $6 for a single foam cover from Turtlewax cover at Pepboys.

Guess I am going to add Walmart to my detailing places to shop!

Thanks for the heads up!:bow

Good job :) My wife tells me that unless something is directly in front of me (when she asks me to get something out of the pantry/closet/what ever), I must think that it's not there :)

I bought the towels yesterday. I can't wait to use them when I get home in a couple of weeks. Something just struck me funny. If you guys still have the wrapping paper, read the description at the back. If you threw it away, I'll quote it.

"Use this cloth just once and you will be amazed hoe well it clean without chemical cleaners or even water This cloth feels like terry towel but has thousands of fivers to trap dirt and grime."

Whoever typed this needs to go back to school because he/she missed out a period after "...water" and left out the "s" in the word "clean".

That is why they are so cheap. :) They saved the cost of hiring an editor for their marketers. LOL

On the basis of price, I bought two packs of these MF's. After a couple of washes these beauties lint like mad. I guess you get what you pay for. Meantime, I've got ten of these things. Door jams and wheels come to mind.

You can see that they did a mistake like that in one of the pictures posted earlier. It says "Clean without chemicals." on the front of their labelling.
