Ford develops new painting method

Ford said:
We estimate we can save approximately $7 per vehicle by cutting the time it takes to paint a vehicle by almost 20 percent as well as reducing the size of the traditional paint shop by nearly 15 percent.

20% less time and 15% less work space and it only save $7 per vehicle? That's suprising.

I believe robots do the painting.

$7 spread out over 1,000,000 vehicles would be a big savings.

It's a new EPA reg. starting in 2009 for switching over to low voc paints. It starts in California and by 2019 the states will be under this. Ford awarded a contract to Sherwin Williams for this painting process and also for the clear coats ( hard finish) too starting on the 2009 models.
