Just trying to get an idea of who does what. i know having everything and being 100% mobil is better.

But im thinking about doing this part time and dont want to have that kind of investment to start out with. Im also thinking about doing everything out of my garage. But im still trying to figure out a drop off pick up options for the clients.

I only detail family members cars and neighbors cars at my house.

Your township may have a problem with you detailing out of your home.

well i dunno actually i know someone down the street that makes and installs custom stereo car stuff. and hes always cutting wood and what not.

as far as my nextdoors go one guy works for time warner and is never home and the others dont even talk to anyone it seems. ive been outside all day for the past 3 days working on my car and they did not even give me a 1st glance. i can always shut the garage door lol.

im just in the process of thinking of what im going to do if anything.

Its easy to bring your own water. Just a 5 gallon bucket with your own water would be plenty if you use QEW for washes. You could add more (cheap) buckets as needed untill you got something more perminant. This is what I have been doing.


I do require the use of electricty though. I just make sure I mention it in the initial phone call or meeting. It hasnt been too much of a problem. Just make sure you have a really long extention cord for offices and stuff like that!

i also did not mention i have no truck only my bran new accord. i leary as it is having other human beings as a passanger little alone have #'s of chemicals in the trunk.

actually now that i think about it i might actually have a bay i can use. i know someone who does tons and i mean tons of honda/acura/import motor swaps and tuning out of a 8 bay or actually 8 lifts. hummmmmmm well thats an idea im sure he would not mind letting me use some of his space. as that place is HUGE.

I dont have a truck either I can fit everything in my older camry which is probably smaller than your accord. So it is possible.

My setup:
5 gallon bucket with water and a good lid on the passenger floor,
3 plastic bins with all of my chemiclas and towels and stuff along the back seat (so no spilling on the fabric),
Misc stuff like halogen lights on the rear floor,
Portable Vacuum and subwoofer in the trunk!


Getting a space at the motor swap place might be a good idea also. You would have to see how that could work out. It would also depend on what you want to accomplish with your business. You could definately get a lot of business there!

I'm not a pro (at least not full time) but I've recently been doing a bunch of details for people other than friends/family. My experience is that most people don't mind letting you use power/water at all. I explain to them that the amount of water used will be very minimal, I use QEW and only need a water supply to clean dirty wheels/tires. When setting up appointments I have had people question me regarding power. I tell them that while I don't provide my own power like some might I also won't have a loud generator running for hours and hours right outside their house/office. Once I tell them that they are quickly converted.

I make sure to supply my own hose and extension cords.

As far as clients caring about me using their water and power...Well I push the fact that their car doesn't leave the driveway, they don't have to get a ride to pick up their detailed car, and they can watch whatever I do to it.
