For those using HD UNO v3 with Meguiar's MF Pads

Are you using both the cutting pad for harder paints and the finishing pad for softer paints?

What speeds are you using for both...are they similar to the speeds recommended for D300 and D301?

About how many passes are you needing on average to see the same or better results as with D300/D301....more or less passes?

Is it worth going with the MF pads using UNO or stick with foam?

Thanks in advance!

Micah

You do know that there is no difference in the cutting department between the MF pads? Anyway, you use it the same way but UNO is stronger so in general you'll do less passes. It is worth having these pads in stock.

so the coloring is so don't get cross contamination from cutting and finishing compounds. ie cutting compound on the pad used for finishing.

The finishing pad uses a less dense foam as well.

Since I have little experience with the MF Pads thus far, I will most definitely defer to your experience with them on that point. I always thought that the microfiber itself was softer on the finishing disc not just the foam being thicker and less firm. Michael Stoops said as much in his thread on MOL discussing how to use the system. Either way, I was quite impressed using the cutting disc with D300 on my GF's mustang but am a little more concerned before attempting to tackle my Jet Black 335i which is notoriously softer.

Thanks for the info.

I have a 328IS and the best thing for me so far has been my Flex with a black finishing foam LC pad with 105 and then 205. I have not had great luck with UNO or any other combo finishing down marr free. I am keeping the speed around 3. What's odd for me is that the Flex is more aggressive than a Griots- where I use the MF pads- maybe keeping it slow and the finishing pad on there is the reason. Today I had a horrid black Murano- 3 years at the tunnel wash. The MF system worked well- albeit took 2-3 applications of D300 for me to finish well. Each layer of RIDS revealed deeper scratches. I topped with Poxy and it came out nice.

I am still playing with the UNO and have tons of new pads! :)

Let me know how it goes for you, Rob

I have a question, when you guys use MF cutting pad with UNO do you guys prime the pad? Like how Meguiar's recommends you do with D300 + MF Cutting disc when using to prime the whole pad then use two pea sized drops to start correcting the paint.

Nope. I use UNO totally different that M105/D300. It's more like Optimum Spray Compound actually. I just apply a few drops around the outside edge of the pad. Priming usually clogs the pads and makes the surface caked with product.

Amen brother Dave! What I found when i did my M105 vs Uno on MF pads was that the Uno was nice and thick - a little goes a long way. M105 seems runny by comparison. If you do use too much Uno, it quits cutting and you are just spinning your wheels. Clean the pad with compressed air and go back to the panal and "mop" it up with the clean pad, you should get the cut/polish action going back again. I am the worlds worst for using too much product on stuff, I had a hard time letting go the more is better mentality. Back in my 20's I did the same at Gold's Gym, worked great - up to a point, then I started getting painful injuries, and started to realize half my grocery budget went to the GNC!

Interesting how 2 non-deminishing abrasive products can have totally different workflow characteristics on the same medium.

I've had good results cutting with D300 on soft finishes, no luck at all using the MF pads to finish it though.

I haven't been able to get 205 to finish mar-free on soft black regardless of what I've tried. I've had the best results on super-soft black doing things assbackwards... a finishing polish on a cutting pad or 105 on a finishing pad.

So true. Oddly enough, I've seen 105 on a finishing pad work on very opposite kinds of paint...both on a soft black Porsche and a diamond hard black Audi.

OK- I agree a bit as well. 205 is not 100% finishing for me as well.

David G. sent me some Final Finish Polish and the newer Polish II and spray polish. I'm out right now.

Flex 3410, black LC finishing pad, Spay Polish

Griots, Megs. yellow foam, Final Polish

POXY

Coming out best so far.

Flex at 3-5-3

Griots 2-4.5 and then a back down

I'll get her out in the sun in a few.

Going to try UNO pads with these products on other panel.
