For the COIN-OP DIY'ers - Possible Alternative

For the Coin-op users who want to use a botique soap (Perls), don't have access to a hose and don't want to QEW, this method may work out.

So i borrowed a page from GRStilez's book and bought a 2 gallon RoundUp sprayer - $20.00 at loews. Each time i go to the coin-op it costs me $4 bucks. $2 to soak the car and fill bucket, $2 to rinse the car and my buckets. So after 5 uses this pretty much pays for itself.

I use a similar method as a QEW,

- Fill both the bucket and sprayer in the tub.

- Spray down the panel with the sprayer

- Wash the panel with soap and sponge

- Rinse the panel with the sprayer

- Dry the panel

The wand gets into all the hard to reach spots like wheel wells, rims, etc.... 2 gallons was plenty for a sedan. The spray is pretty much the equivalent of the presoak at the coin-op, but not nearly as powerfull as pulling the trigger. I wouldn't recommend it for a heavily soiled car, but as a weekly routine for an autopian this works well.

I'm pretty pumped about not having to drive somewhere to wash my car and all with a $20 investment.

I tried that method and your right it's do-able

I found that while it worked well on the sides of the car, it took forever to hose off the soap on the hood, roof and trunk lid.

However like L33 I wash getting sick and tired of going to the coin-op/touchless wash when the car was really dirty.

So I developed a system to run a Karcher pressure washer from two 5 gallon buckets of water since I have a garage w/power but no outside water source.

Interesting, any specs and/or pics?

No pics or spec's but it's fairly simple.

This is the pressure washer I use

and since this pressure washer won't pull standing water

this is the transfer pump I use

Pump connects between the bucket and the pressure washer. Turn the pump on then the washer and away you go.

The downside is you have to shut the pump off each time you stop the pressure washer or you'll burst the hose..

I just ordered some 12 1/2 gallon water tanks

To replace using the buckets and to give me enough water to do the undercarraige (Karcher has a wand for this).

As it stands now though for a very wintery covered car, I can hose off my A4 and do the wheels/wells with one bucket then I switch to the other when it's time to rinse.

I'm also going to replace the Sears pump with a Shurflo on demand one. So the pump only turns on when I turn on the pressure washer. I can get one for about the same price as the one I have now.

Yes I know all about QEW (lest someone say something) but when my car is caked with road salt I want to get it off before dragging something across it
