Fogger VS. Ozone machine

Could the professionals throw thier opinions in on this. I am not looking for a chemical to kill odors, etc..... I am looking for the difference between a fogger and a ozone machine.

I have heard different things. At one placeI have a guy telling me to get the fogger because the ozone machine doesn't do the job permenently. Then I have other places telling me the fogger just masks the smell.

Which is correct? Which way should I go with this?

I have an ozone machine. It does an excellent job of removing odors. If you run it long enough it will kill the odor permanantly. The Ozone molecules attack organic odor molecules and destroy them. The chemicals used by the Odor fogger do the same thing, probably just a little differently.

ive read that you can actually RENT these machines.

Where would i go to find out more about this? Im very interested in renting one for use in my personal vehicle

Yeah, I am looking to Permenently kill the odor. I just need to find out which is better.

I don't really feel like spending 600 on a ozone machine and 250 on a fogger to find out.

Someone will know.

Hey Rookie.

Here is my 2 cents worth. I am not a professional detailer and do not do this every day. I have a odor fogger and have used it on my familys and my friends cars with moderate success! Initially it seems like it has destroyed the odor and lasts for some time, but I always seem to get some of it returning. These cars have all had previous owners who smoked or had wet stinky pets in there.
I really notice the returning odor on a hot day when the car has been sitting in the sun.

So in my case it works pretty good, but not excellent.

Let me know if you have any questions specific to which model I have.

Mike

Hey Mike, thanks for the response. Have you ever used a ozone machine? Or no?

Also, how long did it last till that old odor comes back?

Hey Rookie.
I have not used the ozone machine. I searched on this site a while back for information on ozone equipment and there seemed to be quite a mixed response to it. Nothing definitive, and there were some heatlh concerns about exposure to ozone.

In my case the decesion was easy. I found a used odor fogger for sale quite cheap, and I can get the special chemical required locally.

I cant say for sure how long the smells stayed away for. It seemed different depending on the time of year (heat). Usually from a couple of weeks to a few months at least.

Mike

Thanks Mike.

If anyone could give me the negative things about ozone machines, that would be great! Positive or negative, what do people think?

Positive is it completely gets rid of offensive odors leaving a very fresh smell. Negative is it will cause a little throat irritation if you sit there and breath it for any length of time. It can also deteriorate rubber in very high concentrations. You should never be running in a car for more than say 20-30 minutes.

brwill2004, you shouldn't be running it in a car for more than 20-30 minutes??! Really? I have heard of people leaving em in over night. Wow. Good thing I heard it now. Have you had a bad experience or something? I know a couple pro's who leave em in longer than that.

brwill is right they can deteriorate rubber inside the vehicle if left on too long. I am not sure of the time factor. There is a health risk but not if you air the car out after your done (don't sit in there with it on). On the positive side nothing works better.
