Over at "another forum", LC has a thread stating that they have some pads for water based products and some are for petroleum based products. Anyone ever heard this before?

(Edited so not to upset anyone)
 
If you don't like that forum, don't read it and don't concern yourself with the information posted there.
 
Baiscally that open cell is for water based products and closed cell for petroleum based.

It seem to be news for most other posters and request were made for a pad listing as to what pad was for what type products.

Keep hoping one day it will change and be the forum they advertised it as.
 
I saw the thread. Interesting theory, which is what I consider it to be for the moment.

I have some LC pads myself, not sure whether they're "open cell" or "close cell" but they were well enough with anything I've tried so far.
 
I wouldn't consider information straight from the manufacturer as a theory.



And it's actually the opposite, open cell is petrol based and closed cell is water based.

In the old 'Ask the Manufacturer' forum I had a discussion with Eric Dunn from LC about it, and he disclosed the above facts back then.
 
Cell structure vs pad composition are completey different. I believe the only relevance in regards to water based vs petro based is that petro based, usually thicker, will hold better in wider cells, resulting in less sling. Larger cell openings also results (usually) in greater cutting ability.

My findings as well.....
 
I know some manufactureres list pores per squar inch as a determination of whether it's a finishing, polishing, buffing or cutting pad. I also think the the newer waterbased products are thinner than some of the older petro products(correct me if I'm wrong) so the PPI might have a greater effect on thinner products.
 
They both work well for me too, however, the closed cell pads - like Sonus SFX and LC DA pads - are hydroscopic and keep the pad surface wet for longer. As a result I get less caking and dusting on those pads.



I recently did a car using the SFX pad and 1Z PP. I did the whole car - ZERO dusting. With other pads it dusts a little.
