foam gun

I spent some time reading through the existing thread that already discusses this issue in depth.

This is what I learned from that thread:

In the end, choose the one you like. The one with more brass pieces is said to actually rust a little and to "freeze up" if left unused for some period of time.

The plasticy version on the other hand, is said to be less durable in terms of dropping it and such.

Flip a coin :).

The second one provides excellent foam for me....

Yep :xyxthumbs

While I've always used the brass ones, I can make a good argument for the plastic version as well.

I somehow suspect that the plastic one will require a little less upkeep overall, but I hope it can be disassembled should hard water deposits/etc. start to clog things up (the brass one comes apart easily).

If you get the brass one, lock-tite the little screw-on bits so they don't come loose and get lost.

And with either model, consider replacing the pistol-grip with something more ergonomically friendly.

I received my Gilmour 95QGFMR Foamaster II yesterday and as I hook the sprayer to the container, the connection between the brass fittings felt loose.

It's securely attached, as you can't pull it apart without sliding the ring to detach it, but you can turn the sprayer one way and the container the other way.

Does this sound normal? I haven't had a chance to hook it up to the hose and tried running water through it as we got dumped with snow last night.

100 bucks seems like a lot of money for a foam cannon. Anyone make something comparable with standard products from home depot?

just to note, this thread is in regards to the foam gun = hooks up to garden hose, and foam cannon = hooks up to pressure washer. i have both and if you take care of them, they will practically last you forever. i find myself using the foam gun more often these days...

OK, so late last fall I'm doing a quick wash, it turns dark and I run over my beloved foam gun. It is the brass version and would require almost every part except the canister :bawling:

No big deal, I'll just put one of the Amazon guns on my Christmas list. The wife later tells me the foam gun was on back order, but that's OK, I'm not going to use it in the middle of winter. Then she gets an e-mail where Amazon canceled her order because "...Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain....."

Then I notice other vendors are sold out of the Gilmour guns so I start to worry. I signed up on Amazon to be auto-notified when they would be back in stock. I also sent a query to Gilmour asking about them. I never did hear back from Gilmour but Amazon just alerted me that the 95QGFMR was back in stock. This is the Foamaster II that has an adjustable ratio but has a plastic dial instead of the brass slider. I guess this will give me a chance to see if I like the newer (plastic) Foamaster II better or not.

Gilmour makes a confusing array of foam guns but the two on Amazon that you want are one of these:

Gilmour 95QGFMR Foamaster II Cleaning

Gilmour 75QGFMR Foamaster Adjustable Multi Ratio Cleaning Gun (still out of stock at this writing)

Amazon also sells a version (75QGF4) that does not have an adjustable ratio so be aware of that.

EDIT: I just got an e-mail response from Gilmour about their foam guns being out of stock and here is the reply (2-19-2010): ".....We moved the production line and are way behind with the production schedule. Keep the faith, they will be available soon."

Yeah, nothing weird about it.

Thanks for the replies. Finally tried it out last Saturday. I can see why they designed it that way and it worked nicely. No leaking and the quick release slider is nice to have. I still need to adjust the dilution rate as I'm not getting as much foam as I wanted.

Well, I think I use the foamguns differently from most people; I don't *want* a thick foam but rather a sudsy shampoo mix that will, for instance, flow through the bristles of my BHB.
