Foam gun with Griot's car wash

After reading all of the positive feedback about foam guns, I succumbed, and ordered a Gilmour gun from Danase.



I'm not looking to bother anyone for instructions on how to use it. I will read the instructions with the gun.



However, I have used Griot's car wash for a long time, and like it. Moreover, I have a gallon and a half of it.



So, I am looking for any tips specific to the use of a foam gun with Griot's car wash. Thanks in advance for any help.
 
This has got "Accumulator" written all over it like white on rice.



If my memory serves me right he mixes about 5 or 6 ounces of Griots in a gallon container. That solution, once blended, goes in the foam gun.



I do the same thing with a Rubbermaid gallon pitcher. I fill with water almost up to the top and pump in 5 or 6 ounces of Meguiar's Gold Class. I let it sit for a few days and the soap dissolves in the water. A little up and down shake and it's all mixed.
 
I use an old gallon container (Zephyrhills spring water jug) and mix up a gallon of solution at a time. I use about this much in the gun for one wash so it serves my purposes well.
 
Holy crap, Neo! You use a gallon of solution for each wash? Even with the foam gun with the 64 oz. cup, what a pain to refill the container during a wash. You need to richen up your solution and adjust your spraybar so you don't use so much.
 
I'm normally running the most diluted setting setec.. Dont forget that I dont do just the paint, I also do wheels, wheel wells, and some of the undercarriage at every wash, so I use more than most would. For just the paint I use about a half gallon of solution.
 
That's what I'm saying, you need to run less diluted...that's the whole point of the gun, to siphon the detergent or whatever from the gun, dilute it, and dispense it to the surface. If you use a low-viscosity car shampoo, you could run that straight in the cup of the foam gun, thick shampoos like NXT and GC need to be diluted because they are too viscous to siphon properly. If you put more shampoo in the cup, and run on the less diluted setting, you will not draw as much mixture from the cup. As long as you compensate for the larger percentage of shampoo in the cup by shifting to a smaller siphon hole in the spraybar, you will be getting the same amount of shampoo on the car, just not stopping to fill the cup.

I can vouch for the amount he uses (had the pleasure of meeting him at DetailFest). I was ribbing him about his wash process, but you can't argue with results. His Scion looks pristine :2thumbs:
 
Heh heh, no need for my usual $0.02 as it's all already been posted :D



And IMO however much shampoo/time/whatever somebody uses, as long as they're cool with it and like the results, more power to them.



Hey, Moe- Just remember "dislodge and flush." The whole point is to avoid the marring caused by pressing the dirt against the paint, so work towards that.
 
I'm not quarreling with the amount of shampoo, he can use whatever he wants...I'm just quarreling with the math...that he can use the same amount of shampoo without having to refill the gun so often by changing his cup ratio and mixing bar position.
