Can I apply FMJ on a car that already has a coat of wax on it? If not what would be the best way to quickly get it ready so I could apply FMJ on it? Thanks!

Happy 4th Everyone. :hurray:

It's always better to apply FMJ first, so I would remove the coat of wax first and then after your apply FMJ then go with Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield Spray. These two are a awesome combo to use and will leave you surface so wet and super slippery.

Happy 4th as well, I hope you had safe and fun time and enjoyed whatever your choice in festivities!

You can apply FMJ on top of anything and it should leave behind some layer of protection but there is the possibility that the product will not preform optimally. Why?

When FMJ was originally created several years ago by our formulators to compliment and complete the Menzerna line for our launch of the products into the US market, it was designed for the ultimate in ease of use. The product was tested and retested with a plethora of the most common detailing products to test performance and ensure the sealant would work for most people in most situations. Ease of use is key in a product such as this, which was designed to introduce the name Menzerna to the broad public. Most people don't take the time wipe the paint with alcohol or track their last application of who knows what.

Most sealants will not bond to their fullest potential when applied over a carnauba based product (although in some cases the degradation is exaggerated) and FMJ is no exception. This doesn't mean it will not add some protection or the acrylic polymers will not form a bond to something (whether it be spots of paint or the polymers in the previous product) it just may not last as long or in the worst case create streaking.

For the best performance apply to a clean surface that is prepped particularly for FMJ. In this case, using Menzerna One Step Acrylic Jacket will clean previous product and waxes and lay down a 'primer coat' of polymers for FMJ to bond with. This 'primer coat' is durable enough to provide up to 2-3 months of protection by itself, but will not have quite the high gloss of FMJ.

Alternatively you can ensure the paint is just 'very clean' and FMJ will do an outstanding job. Much like Blackfire Wet Diamond, FMJ is going to be very user friendly and 'work' over anything, you could be leaving a little on the table though.

I've put down FMJ over Klasse AIO, Zaino AIO and M21 with excellent results. I've always stayed away from putting FMJ over carnauba waxes though. No particular reason other than supposed bonding issues.:)
