FMJ Questions

I'm fairly new to detailing and have read about a lot of product. I bought FMJ and FP II. I did a couple of vehicles and notice that after a few days, the vehicle does not feel like the FMJ is still on it.

Isn't FMJ supposed to have a long durability? Right after you put it on it feels like it should....nice and smooth. A few days later you don't feel it on there.

Seems like this has come up a couple times recently. I've found FMJ to be very durable, but I think it's a little finicky about applications and curing time.

Before you applied the FMJ did you isa wipedown the car to remove all traces of the FPII? Also, after application of the FMJ was the car subjected to rain in the first 12 hours or so? Either of these things seems to have a significant effect on the longevity of FMJ. I dislike that it seems to need a 12 hour "setup time", but when it is left to cure it seems to get many months of solid durabilty in my experience.

The first one I did seemed to last the longest. I just washed, clayed and did FMJ by hand.

The next 2 were new cars that I washed and then put FMJ. Those were outside after completeing and did not rain until the next day.

The last one I did I used a friend's PC and did a 2005 SSr. I washed, clayed, FP II wiping off residue with MF and then FMJ with PC. It did rain about an hour after it completed.

After polishing I'd wipe down with alcohol and water just to make sure the paint is totally clean.

Rain within an hour of FMJ seems to all but kill it's longevity, which would explain that.
