FMJ Question

Is FMJ really worth the money? What are the differences and similarities to Klasse SG? Is it easier to use?

I am considering it for spring time and would like opinions

I find it much easier to use. On a properly prepped surface using a true polish its literally a breeze to use.

Looks, durability will vary but the product is definitly one of the easiest if not the easiest sealant to use.

What color car are we working with?

Anything has to be easier to apply than SG. I have never had any success with SG at all. I guess if you use the Woo Woo method, it makes it a lot eaier to apply and remove. But for me it's not worth the effort. From what I understand if you can get applying it down pat, it looks great and last a long time.

FMJ, I've heard a lot of great things about, however for the price, I don't really know if it is worth it! I heard it is very bright and clear with a very wet reflection. Don't really know about application.

Might want to look into something 4*UPP. I have heard some really good things so far. The price is OK, and it's a very good product. I have only done my GF's hood with it, and I was very impressed. Topped it with Paste Glaz and it was a very good slick combo.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity. What do you use as a prep? I love Klasse AIO. Wouold that be appropriate?

Also, I use SG and love the durability. 3 months and still beads like I applied yesterday

I agree about SG. I have a fresh unopened bottle of UPP on my shelf. Maybe will try it. Always looking for something new to try. My car is silver BTW

I use FPII to prep. The initial cost of FMJ is alot, but the bottle will last a looooong time. The application amout used is comparable to zaino. If you factor in the steps you need for the zaino system combined with the amount of product you get, zaino maybe more expensive.

Hey Dalton, do you top sealant with a wax? Because I have really good success with Paste Glaz. I think you should give the UPP a try. You might just be surprised! I'm currently testing the Finish Kare products, you would not believe the FK1 pink wax. I'm clearing out all of Carnauba waxes for this one. And I just ordered their sealant, and I can't wait! The FK1 pink wax is the best hands down carnauba wax I have ever used. A guy on here tdekany uses their products in his detail and has a great success. Do a search on fk1 and 2180 in the click and brag and his work will come up! The pinkwax is $14.77 for 15oz, you will not be disappointed at all!!!!!

Thanks Cobra. Funny you should ask that. I do not top with wax. Usually just seal and maintain. Would not be opposed to it just not something I do. I will look in to that was but was also looking at S100. This pink stuff is better than S100 and Paste Glaz?

FMJ is pretty expen$ive but a little goes a long way. Very easy to apply & it residue comes off even easier, it feels like the MF towel is buffing AIR. I prepped with FPII, applied FTG, and then applied the first FMJ layer with a PC, other layers applied by hand.

FMJ tends to produce irregular shaped water beads, as opposed to the tall, round beads you get with carnauba, and I don't think durability is the equal of SG & some of the other premium name sealants. Someone here did a test & FMJ didn't do too well.

I've 3x layers of FMJ under 3x layers of #476s for the winter & the beads all still tall, round, & tight after 20+ washings & lots of salt so #476s is still protecting & I'm not down to the FMJ yet.

One negative point - if you're applying FMJ & a drop of water dribbles out of some trim, blot it up & don't get any on the FMJ applicator 'cause it'll steak & smear like crazy. Change applicators & apply a bit of FMJ to remove the steaking & smearing.

I now use FMJ on most of my customers cars, for several reasons:

1 - It is a hell of a lot easier to apply than SG (and more fun)

2 - It is a hell of a lot easier to buff off than SG

3 - It looks just as good (if not better) than SG

4 - It provides the slickest finish imaginable (with proper prep work) that my customers want and expect.

5 - Durability it comparable.

6 - It may be pricier, but I will reach for it every time over SG.

Love the stuff! Now........if they can just make is smell like Sonus Paintwork Cleanser............

Yes. Hands down, looks, ease of use, price! Durability I will have to let you know!

Click on wax/sealants underneath the car.

Ive had FMJ on my Accord for exactly 1 month and its still beading strong. I agree with all the other comments on FMJ. As far as durability, Im still testing. So far so good. As far as irregular shaped beads, I think thats a matter of how soft or hard its raining outside. When its a light rain, my car beads like Military dress right dress. When it rains hard, the beading is a lil different.

Hey Peggy...I spoke to you on the phone awhile back when ordering SPC(Sonus Paintwork Cleaner), and you said back then I would love the smell. I thought nothing of it till reading this post, but my bottle doesnt smell like anything....pretty bland. What is it supposed to smell like ??
