FMJ on top of VM (Vanilla Moose)?!?!

a couple guys have questioned whether Menzerma FMJ will set up properly on top of Clearkote VM....



what do you guys think?



just bought a PC, have a 99 rio red cobra, need all the protection i can get (daily driven, not garaged)...



need a combo that will *brighten* appearance and not darken it..





heres what im looking at





wash, clay, wash, then:



1) Polish (undecided, maybe Optimum, FPII, need advice!)

2) Vanilla Moose

3)FMJ

4) S100 or Natty's (leaning toward S100)

Although I haven't tried this combo I would generally say no to putting a sealant on top of a glaze. But FMJ is made to go over FTG which is also a glaze and full of oils and fillers and from all reports seems to work well. So I don't see why it wouldn't work over VM.
 
It works over VM. I've tried it. Can't say if it affects long term durability or not, though.



I wouldn't top FMJ with a wax. Also tried that, and really didn't notice an improvement in looks. It looks fine on its own, and I don't think you're after the look that a carnauba provides.
 
Clearkote's VM is no typical glaze. Have used VM, RMG and Yellow moose prior to FMJ, UPP & wolfgang with no durability issues

I am using 1Z perls in the wash bucket with four star Ultimate shampoo on the microfibre wash mitt to start to allow the mitt to lather up which 1Z does not do.

After researching FMJ on mulitple sites I do not think there will be any problems using VM/RMG before FMJ. I have not used FMJ or VM before, but I will be using RMG and FMJ on two of my black cars in the next few days and will let you know my thoughts then if you want.



BTW most of the people I have talked to that have used FMJ recommend not topping it.
 
I think there is a strong possibility that FMJ does not last as long with FTG (or VM) underneath it. I did a casual test and that is what I found, but it was hardly conclusive. I'd need to do another more scientific test to confirm my findings.



However, if you want maximum durability, you should use Zaino. FMJ will not last nearly as long as Zaino, but it is easier to apply and remove. Haven't let FMJ go until it has completely died, but it seems to degrade faster. The Acrylic Shield QD would go a long way to extend its durability.



I religiously use FMJ and Zaino on my cars and can't say which one I like better, as they both have their strengths and weaknesses.



In any case, with FMJ, I prefer to polish the surface and then apply FMJ directly over it. Then I do not top it with anything.
 
i think VM has some wax in it which may hinder FMJ from setting up properly. if anything, go with RMG as it is more of a pure glaze (no wax).



but if you want a bright look and not darken the paint, just polish well, and then top off with FMJ. VM/RMG *may* darken your paint (i haven't noticed that on my azure blue). other options may be the Klasse Twins or Zaino.

if im going to go FMJ and use FPII, i might as well go ahead and get the complete car kit (about same price as buying individually)

had been thinking that the VM would *DEEPEN* the appearance, get the idea the menzerema line up will be exceptionally glossy, but wont have the depth that natural products provide...



the kit includes the FTG, am i wrong thinking that the VM would give me more depth that the FTG?



am not so concerned about durability, just want to add a little richness/depth...
