Flyers... % Return

I distributed 2500 flyers last month and received 10 calls back for a total of $1320. I believe thats only like a 2% return on a per flier basis. So far thats been a pretty average return compared to my othr mailings. Is that on par with everyone elses results?

I work in advertising and although I do not work in the direct mail segment, if I remember correctly, the average return (Not even sell through, just response) is typically 1%. So you're doing way better then average considering you have actual sales!

Ok thanks... I wasnt sure if that was about right or not. I also did a direct mailing to a luxury neighborhood to offer my services exclusively to them and got almost 60 different vehicles. I reccomend trying that. Its cheap and atleast they will have seen your company even if they dont use you.

That a boy on the mailings, very professional!!!

About the flyers, how did you distribute them? 2% of 2,500 is 50 calls!!!

I think what you received is 0.4% if my math is correct.

By the math it looks like your charging $130 for a detail, is that correct?

By direct mailing, do you mean you addressed each card to the homeowner by name or did you just put "Current Resident"? Also, what did it cost to do direct mailing?

I do demographic blitzes of 5,000 homes, 3 times, so 15,000 over all mailings. Cost, $5,200

You can do the same demographic blitzes with door hangers and have a distribution company do the door hanging. Cost, $3,600

Its more about your budget and how effective your money is spent. The advantage with the door hangers is you can select neighborhoods more effectively and distribute 1,000 a week.. This is a more manageable work flow for a mobile detailer

I did the math wrong as faqr as % go, but the average job price was about 130 per. I have been more than pleasantly surprised with this mailing. I think one of the main reasons I did so well is die to the fact that I live in an Equine community and offer acid baths and waxing for horse trailers and RV's as well. Also I recently aquired a fleet contract to one of the largest horse limousine services in my area. His opinion has a lot of weight in the local area. Luck has been on my side so far.

Good marketing niche !!! What is a acid bath? I’m interested in the horse trailer detailing because I’m in a BIG Equine community also. How much do you charge and what is your service?

Thanks

Ditto.

I live right near the Philadelphia Park Race Track. There are plenty of horse owner's around here also. It's a shame about the race horse "Barbaro". I hope he get's better. :(

What did it cost you to get those 2500 flyers out? I would look at that cost vs the new biz that you got and use those numbers to calculate your return on investment. If a few of those customers come back, you did really well.

Exactly. The most important thing is getting enough business to offset the cost of the flyers. I am guessing it didn't cost you $1300 to print those flyers. Plus you have to look at what you get by turning those 10 jobs into lifetime customers.

I guess if you don’t have $1,300 then you may have a point. Looks like it’s back to throwing rocks LOL......... I think my time would better spent chasing skirts!!!

We don't advertise.

We do work hard, but we do very little promotion in general.

We are blessed, and we know it. :dance

Same here, it does take some time to get rimly established though. Once you have a good reputation built up, your customers will sell you to their friends. I've picked up a ton of referrals in the past few weeks just by detailing other people's cars.

If you’re a one man show working out the trunk of your car, how much business do you really need? I would pass out flyers and throw rocks if I was in that position too. Why spend money creating a professional business image if you don’t want one? It fit’s your business plan!!!

At least I have proven I am a real detailer around here, something you have yet to do.
