Flex vs. Porter Cable (Sound Wise)

Hi gents,

I was just wondering if someone could give me some input as to the sound levels of the two buffers listed in this thread topic. I initially had purchased a Flex about a year ago. I had no garage at the time and was forced to construct a 10x20 auto canopy every time I wished to utilize the Flex. At the time of use I noticed it was rather loud. I didn't get to use it much so I ended up selling it..

Fast word a few months - I now have access to a garage. I was contemplating buying a PC but with the stipulation that it will not be too loud. I live in a development where something of this sort is rather frowned upon. (The garage is attached to the house as well as the neighbors.)

So, if anyone has any experience using both, can you please let me know if the PC is as loud as the Flex?

Any input would be much appreciated.:up

Thanks,

Keith

I have both, and I think that they are pretty comprable as far as sound goes. I really don't hear much of a difference between the two.

+1 I agree I think they are pretty close in that dept

Both are loud at max speed and are comparable in that regard, but I find the PC a bit more annoying with its higher pitch and "clacking". Machining isn't going to be quiet, even rotaries can get loud, but at least they're more tolerable by others.

I wear NRR 33db earplugs when using my PC.

yeah it's loud... and I already have hearing loss (hence the name), so I don't risk any more with something as trivial as a car polisher.

Oh trust me. Its not my hearing I'm worried about. (I'm half deaf - I spent 4 years in the Marines doing artillery, via a 155mm howitzer.)

It's the neighbors I would be worried about. HOA are a pain in the butt..

I purchased a the Flex DA yet, but my PC is very loud. The volume of the PC varies, and it sounds almost like a rod knock.

The rotary is extremely quiet and I use it all the time for jewelling with PO85RD or PO106FA.

My Makita sounds and feels normal. The PC on the other hand is clackity;

sounds and feels like a junk tool that's going to vibrate itself to death.

However, i felt almost the same way with the Makita; it felt like junk

compared to my Dewalt 849. Anyhow, get whatever you want, none of

the machines are all that loud. It's not like a gas powered leaf blower.
