Two questions. Is it worth upgrading to the 25' rubber chord? I think I would still need an extension chord.
Also, I want to use 5.5" pads. It comes with a 6.5 backing plate.Is it a pain to change backing plates (I would just buy one extra) or is it worth getting the changeable backing plate system? I probably will only use 5.5 or 6.5 inch pads...mostly 5.5". Then I read where it even though it's set up for 6.5" pads, it will automatically fit 5.5" pads. So I am confused on if another backing plate is even needed. Otherwise, I can get the whole thing for $369.00 (including 25' chord w/backing plate system and no shipping!) or $269 (regular chord/no backing plate system no shipping) on sale if I don't need any other backing plates. Thanks in advance.

I have had a 3401VRG since they came out years ago. I dont know if it is worth it or not upgrading to a longer cord. I still have the original power cord on mine and just use a nice, flexible round 14awg extension cord believe its 25' long. It is all I have ever needed and I have never had problems with this set up.

The Flex will respond very well to the 4-3/8" backing plate that is a Flex product and sold probably here too. Then you can use the smaller diameter 5" pads, which make this machine so much more manageable. The counter-clockwise rotation has always been a challenge for a lot of users, since all other machines rotate clockwise. But is it not impossible, I use the Flex and a Rotary all the time, and can adapt to either rotation easily.

The other 3-backing plate option looks too pricey to me and I have another Meguiars G110v2 that has the smaller 3" backing plate and can also switch to that size on my Rotary as well.

It is not hard to change out the backing plate on the Flex. Just look at it carefully, remove carefully, note what came off where, and reverse what you did with the new one on it.

I would recommend just buying a good quality 12AWG 25 ft extension cord. It gives you more options like for a Master Blaster, etc.

I really see no big issues like with a non-forced DA with 6.5 in pads just be sure the backing plate is closer to the pad diameter to reduce tippiness (walking) with softer pads.

Lake Country has an interchangeable plate system that works with the flex as well. I just picked up some LC hybrid pads and seem to fit the flex better (backing plate size) but have not had a chance to use them.
 

I personally would stick with the std. cord if you are going to still need a extension cord. Just pick up a high quality heavy duty extension cord to handle the machine and any other needs.


I have the smaller 4 3/8" backing plate and it works well for 5" pads. It is very easy to switch the plates out using the included allen wrench. The other option is the Changeable Backing Plate System that would then give you 4" & 6 1/2" backing plates.

Thanks Everyone. I have a PC 7424 now but looking to add to my collection.
I like the Meg's MF pads. Do those pads work well on the Flex? I haven't seen too many comments about that useage.
