Flex 3401 VRG Headcount

FYI

Detailer Domain does not deal with the warranty issues if you purchase it from them. They pass you to their supplier. I think this is to cut out the middle man and save time.

Anyhoo. I contacted them and was sent a new felt ring and backing plate with no issues at all.

You are supposed to soak the felt ring in a light motor oil and then get rid of the excess, before installation.

Then remove the backing plate and tighten the new plate.

I don't recall seeing anything like that in the manual - maybe I should look at it...:think2

I hit mine pretty well w/ silicone spray and it seems to be fine...

Newb question...I've seen to "moisten" or "soak" the felt ring...how is everyone doing this, are you actually soaking the entire ring, or just dabbing it with oil here and there?

I've got my first two flex details lined up this weekend and want to be sure everything is good to go.

I poured Mobil 1 into a ziplock. Zipped it in and worked it around until it got a good soaking. Took it out and thoroughly wiped it dry with lots of paper towels.

OK, help the idiot (me) here. I need to take the white felt ring out and soak it in oil, then wipe off and reinstall? Little pieces of black plastic (shavings) have come off my Flex as well...but I've only used it 3 times. The felt hasn't melted to the plate, so I can still get it out fine. Is this all I need to do?

I tried a lithium grease instead of oil. The lithium is heat resistant. I didn't want the felt ring to absorb the oil. I just wipe a thin layer on it each time I use it. Then wipe off any excess with a paper towel. It has been working great.

I also changed the washer out to a harden washer. It is a lot stronger, and doesn't give as much under pressure.

The washer in question is that the one that is on the bolt holding the BP??? only washer I could think of so makes sense if it is :)

Yes, that's the one. When I got mine, the waher was a little bowed. Don't kow how. Some people are using double washers. I just got a extra strength one, instead of doubled.

I just had the felt ring and backing plate issue. When I get the new ring and backing plate you do not secure it with glue just soak it in oil then slide it in the groove?

No glue required. I dipped, dried, and applied. I used 10W30 Mobil 1. I plan on doing so each spring and checking it again midway through summer.

I check tension on the bolt and handle bolts regularly.

Received mine from DI during there Christmas sale ($250 shipped) used for maybe 1/2 an an hour. Need to find me a test bed *hopefully this weekend if weather permits*
