Wouldn`t the Flex 4,3/8th bp work better then the LC`s 4`` using 5``-5.5`` pads? I see LC has 5.5`` flat pads, CCS pads, Hydro-tech pads & of course the 5`` hybrid pads. Just trying to figure out the different size pads as the oem bp is a 5.5`` & most kits use 6.5`` pads.

It depends on the pad. The Flex 4 3/8" plate is a little too big to use with the 5" Hybrid pads. The Hybrids taper in towards the velcro, so the plate over hangs. If you press down hard enough, the plate will cut into the pad. Although there have been people who say that they use it this way. You`re better off with pads that have at least 4 3/8" of velcro area. It`s easier to show with pictures so...

Here`s the LC 5" Hybrid with the Flex 4 3/8" plate:

The Flex 4 3/8" plate should work fine with 5 1/2" pads. I bought it to work with the newer LC Force hybrid pads.

Although PBMG doesn`t sell them LC FORCE Hybrid 5.5" pads work well with 4 3/8 backing plate as they have 5" velcro.

You guys know what brand or who produces the 4`` bp for the 3401? Its in the ``dream kit`` & I see CG`s sells them.

Just so you are aware - the FLEX bp CG sells is 4" 3/8. They`re just too lazy to correct their typo.

Wow, thanx for your input.

Sure thing! I remember seeing a thread a while back about some who ordered the BP from CG thinking (like you) that they were getting a 4" instead of the 4" 3/8 one. When it arrived, surprise! it was the 4" 3/8 BP.

here`s the 4 3/8" BP and a LC Flat Pad, notice how much area does not have the support of the BP. In my case/experience, this was leaving my pads a bit warped like a mushroom shape:

Here`s the same pad but with the 3401`s stock BP after I shaved the "excess" rubber section/outer rim of the stock BP to accommodate my flat pad. This is what I currently use and yeah, many will think " there`s barely a safety margin oh my baby Jesus!" but even if you DO have plenty of safety margin, the Flex 3401 is not a machine that you want to let it do what it wants during work because you have to control it 100% of the time and not take your eye off its path/behavior. I haven`t had any accidents with this set up, but I keep a veeeery close eye on where that pad is spinning, especially when getting close to raised adjacent areas.

At the moment, I have no use for my 4 3/8 BP because any smaller pads get used with my PC7424 .
